One of this morning's headline stories from the New York Post concerns another tourist arrested and charged with having a loaded handgun in his possession. This time it was a man from Ohio (with a home state CCW) who had three pistols in his hotel room, which room service saw and reported.

Amazing....people still do not think the law applies to them!!
And to leave guns unsecured in a hotel room for the maid to find....that's way beyond stupid.

A big welcome sign at the NYC limits should read "Welcome to the Peoples Republic of New York - and remember - you are being watched."

If your going to New York or Mass. leave your guns at home folks. They will however, take your money with or without a firearm.

People go to New York City on purpose? Why? I can see a Broadway play at the local theatre...

^^^THIS^^^

I may never return to NYC ever again, and that thought doesn't bring a tear to my eye. :/

Actually, due to their firearm laws *they* don't get ANY of my money.
I'm a Chicago sports fan but wouldn't spend a dime in Illinois for that same reason. California either.

I don't get it. ALL of the gangstas are running around armed and it would seem that NOTHING's being done about them, but I can't protect myself and my family?
There's some logic to this???

I travel to NYC (my little sister lives there). I bring a 12 gauge coach gun. Legal, handy, and fast to load. Shotguns (most of them, anyway) are still legal in NY.
My NYS pistol permit is, of course, not legit in NYC. Complete bunk, but reality. New York state has not decided to get their largest city under control. Seems that Albany, only 200 miles away, is unaware of the violations of the state's constitution being committed by New York City.

I am not sure why you as a non-resident of NYC are allowed to possess a shotgun in NYC. Isn't there a registration procedure for shotguns in NYC?

Eh. A hotel would normally count as a domicile. The NYC law banning mere possession by an outsider/non resident probably violates not only the 2nd Ammendment (made an individual right by Heller, and later applied to the States) but also the whole "full faith and credit" part of the Constitution. Just no one has wanted to take on NYC and litigate the whole mess yet, but they seem determined to bring matters to a head. And will likely get stomped down... since NYC isn't a sovereign nation and still has to obey the U.S. Constitution.

That another state/jurisdiction gave some a permit to carry ought suffice - under full faith and credit - to at least cover mere possession in another U.S. jurisdiction.

Though if I were governor of OH, TN, or one of the other state who's had citizens arrested in NYC recently, I suppose I'd be tempted to prove a point by ordering the state police to no long recognize a Driver's Lisc issued to any resident of NYC and arrest anyone caught thus driving within the state and while at it to refuse to recognize any marriage liscs, property deeds, yada yada issued by NYC.

What about the registration requirement?

Don't know what you mean, but the Federal peaceable journey law applies here. If the weapon may be legally posessed at the origin and destination, you are legal. I have a home in Dutchess county, NY, and I'm, naturally, "on my way there".

Holy cow, slingshots are still legal in NYC unless it has a wrist-brace, then it's illegal.

NYC 265.01 Criminal possession of a weapon in the fourth degree. A person is guilty of criminal possession of a weapon in the fourth degree when:

(1) He possesses any firearm, electronic dart gun, electronic stun gun, gravity knife, switchblade knife, pilum ballistic knife, metal knuckle knife, cane sword, billy, blackjack, bludgeon, metal knuckles, chuka stick, sand bag, sandclub, wrist-brace type slingshot or slungshot, shirken or "Kung Fu star".

Wrong. You must be passing through to take advantage of FOPA. Just ask the Tea Party leader who got arrested in the NYC airport on his way home.
