My 19-4 serial number 59k19XX bought used after I retired from the sheriffs department. I have ordered the SCSW but it has not arrived yet. Any body know what year it was produced. The grips are from a gentleman in Sacramento who tried to start up a grip company.
This has been one of my most favorite threads on this forum. But up until recently I haven't actually owned a Combat Magnum. Well that all changed with the pruchase of a very nice 19-3 w/ 2.5" barrel. It has a serial number of 6K292XX. Has gas ring on cylinder and came from factory with target hammer and target trigger. Now I just have to find a 66 2.5"!!
What is a gas ring?

Great thread. I have three 66s. My first was a Robertson special 66-5 with a 3 1/4" bbl and the second one was a 66-1 with a 4" bbl, previously in the service of the Indiana State Police. I recently picked up a CS 66-6 with a 3" ported bbl. Life is good...

See the raised area in the center of the cylinder on the left? That has gas ring on cylinder. See the flat surface on the right? That ring is in the yoke.

This 66-2 belonged to my Father who passed away 5 years ago. I feel like he's with me when I shoot it and it's obviously a very special gun to me. I added the Grashorn's a few years ago.

Here's a 19-5 (201K3xx) I bought, just because it had the smaller trademark under the thumbpiece than a lot of 19-5s and on.
While entering it, I came across another one pretty close to it with a note about a "-4" overstamped with a "-5". Made me look and what do you know:
(I know, not the clearest but not the easiest shot to get...)
The stocks are also numbered to the gun, but that's another post...

Here's a pic of my 19-4....
I converted it to DAO, bobbed the hammer, and this was my "truck gun" for many years.
The bluing was very worn and some pitting had began at the time I sold it to a friend. He sent it off and had it hardchromed.
I regretted ever selling it and it changed hands a couple of times before coming back.

My 19-5
1983 blue 4" Model 19-5. Seller said very low round count apx. 200. Very light turn ring and no holster wear. I am very fond of my first Model 19!

Well, here is my contribution to this most informative thread. It's a 19-3, 4". I already have a 686-6 and 629-6 Classic. But when I asked to pet this little sweetie at the LGS I fell in love and HAD to have it...
After disassembling it for a good cleaning/inspection, I find that this piece looks like it may have been carried, loaded and unloaded alot, but not necessarily fired as much as I initially thought. The backstrap over the forcing cone is superb, and the internals are VERY clean and rust free.. VERY happy I decided to adopt this Smith..
I apologize for the large pics, I cannot seem to get them to upload in the uploader for some reason

Here's mine. 19-3 that I found wearing Hogue rubber. Swapped those for some old magnas I happened to have stuck in the parts box, but I'm planning to add a set of smooth Grashorn's like 1blindref has on his 66-2 (on page 32) and a Tyler T. The action is nice and smooth, and it has very nice CCH on the hammer & trigger. My pictures don't do the blueing justice on this one. Serial number is 8K58XX. Anybody out there able to help me with an approximate date of birth.
