Hey everyone,first time posting. I purchased my compact two weeks ago and put 300 rounds through it since then. my problem is that 19 of those were fte or ftf. I never had any problems when i had my sigma or xd. I'm hoping this is a simple fix. The person that works at the shop i bought it from just said to let him know how it is after 1,000 rounds. I thought this gun would be reliable out of the box. Thanks in advance for any help.

What kind of ammo are you using? Was the problem happening with a particular mag? Were you limpwristing?

Were they evenly spaced through the session(s) or near the end when you may have been a bit more tired?

I got mine about two weeks ago too. I took mine to the range last Saturday and it ate a few hundred rounds like a hungry pit bull.

Time to call S&W!
They mostly happened at the beginning. There was one ftf/fte in each of the the first two full mags I put through it. It seems to happen between rounds 3-6 in both mags. When i start getting tired I just start missing the plates. I like the gun and am willing to try anything as far as the limpwristing. Looks like i'm going to range tomorrow and get some practice.Since i'm not too familiar with this gun, is there anything that could be wrong with the gun itself? Assuming that I'm not screwing it up.
Call S&W? I was hoping that wouldnt be posted. I've read that some of these m&p's are perfect and some spend alot of time back at the factory. I guess I'll put another 150rds through it tomorrow and see how it does. Is it a big hassle dealing with S&W? Long waits? Do they argue or try to fight the warranty work like a car dealership?
If you do have to send it to S&W they will send you a prepaid shipping label, they will repair as needed, no hassle, no argument. they will return it free. It may take 2-3 weeks.

I didn't clean mine but I did pull off the slide and put a drop of Mobil 1 full syn. on all four rails before heading to the range.
I'm surprised to hear you are having problems since the 9c is really a great, reliable gun out of the box. I might almost suggest looking at your grip, but then you aren't a newbie to shooting, having shot the sigma and XD. The fact you shot it right out of the box eliminates any breakdown error you might have had, had you broke it down before the first firing. I've always felt that these guns are all shot before leaving the factory so they should be ready to fire out of the box initially for our own peace of mind that the gun is ok.
It may take a return trip back to the factory, I can pretty much guarantee it will be right when it gets back. Once these guns are right they don't seem to ever be wrong. As for myself, I have 4 M&P's, all have been flawless in my book... but.... I had one bad day at the range with my 9c. Numerous failures with some different ammo then what I normally used. I thought it was the ammo at first but after breaking the gun down and cleaning it, I realized I had over oiled, lubed it. I was fairly new to guns, and after shooting many rounds and many cleanings I think I was playing with AR's also at the time and they always recommend lubing the heck out of them, so I thought I should do the same with my M&P... NOT.. It was a bad idea, I cleaned it back up, put my drops of oil at the 5 lube spots and have never had a problem since.. Good luck, get your gun squared away and I'll bet you'll feel really, really good about it.

My m&p9c has been totally reliable right out of the box thru about 300-400 rounds. It is more accurate than i am and a real pleasure to shoot. Hope your gun gets fixed right and you enjoy it as much as i do mine.
i just bought one this morning, traded a Ruger LCP 380 plus some to boot. Shoots like a dream, only ran about 20 rounds through but no problems or hangups. Ive only read positive reviews about these guns and passed on Glock and a row of XD's for this one, hope it holds true to what ive heard. Good luck

problems was running Tulla steel cased ammo, had several FTF's, they did have primer strikes, some of the rounds I would try to run through again, and they usually failed a second time. My son has a Beretta PX4 .40, and had several FTE's with Tulla steel ammo too, until he ran a few hundred rounds through it. Moral for me is never use cheap steel ammo when you need to count on your gun running right.
