I have big 'ol bear paws so a compact firearm is going to have too small grips for me to hold the pistol well enough to fire as accurate as I'd like to otherwise I'd get one.

There not that compact!

But, those pinky extensions and the larger backstraps Come in handy on the M&P compacts. Also, you can use the full size magazines with grip extensions and get the full size grip feeling. It's a bonus that also gives you a 17+1(9mm) capacity.

Just trying to persuade you to buy more guns.

Oh I plan on it, lol but I always figured my next stop would be an early 1900's S&W revolver. I guess I gotta get some more brownie points with the old lady to convince her spending $600 on another pistol is ok. Lol

I have smaller hands and part of the meat of my palm doesn't fit on the M&P compact all of the way. Feels just fine now but I don't know if i'd want it if my hands were any bigger. While I haven't shot the M&P compact, The Ruger SR9C has a very similar feel in terms of grip length and same thing, I dont' know if I'd want one if my hands were too much bigger.

Sigma Vs M&P Compact

What's a thread without pictures! I took a few for comparison...Enjoy!

I just picked up a Streamlight TLR-4 at one of my favorite gun shops in town for $130 out the door. This a 110 Lumen LED rail light with the built in red laser. I can't wait till it gets dark to test it out.

I carry mine on occasion, either a Crossbreed knockoff in regular casua clothes, or if a loose-fitting like flannel shirt, I have carried it in a cheap belt-slide. I agree with a previous, you may ahve to wear some different clothes, and summer may be a hard one to figure. I use a bellyband a lot in summer and I wouldn't carry my SD in one, no safety and the way it sits in a bellyband- I personally don't feel comfortable.

As far as the pictures go, was that a m&p compact or regular size? And the sights on the gun, are they tritium? I've also been looking for a good tritium sight for the sd9 that's under $90.

M&P 40 Compact

Believe it or not it's the compact. I'm getting ready to try a little "Dual Wield" on my next range trip.

I haven't gotten to purchasing some real trinium night sights yet, so I used a $3 hobby fluorescent paint from my wife's scrap book stuff. Pretty bright except I could use a real "Tru-Glow" sight up front.

Yeah I need tritium for the sd, the gun at the local gun shop tried to sell me a laser but to be 100% honest, I'd rather be able to pick the gun up from the dead of sleep point it and know where it has to go rather than have to remember to flip on the laser.

I use the inexpensive model "Sidekick Professional" from a company called Uncle Mikes. It's the open style without the retention strap. Very comfortable.
I use the size 15 and cut a slit on the end so my barrel slips through just a bit allowing the gun to seat a little further into the holster.

I'm tired of carrying inside the pants during the hot months. I will be using the waist pack when I feel the need to carry.

Stories:
My nephew worked in L.E. for awhile and one day (when he was off duty) everyone piled in the car and drove to Dairy Queen for an after dinner treat. While he was standing in line several children (other peoples children) got a little rowdy and one lad got bumped into my nephews back, right where his piece was holstered. Ow!!!
As the story goes, my nephew got a really dirty look from that kid.

OBW/IBW there is a huge difference in he comfort of carry.
A SD9 as a concealed weapon to carry is to heavy for me. I'll think a SD9 is a great tool but for carry on a daily base?
Smaller weapons pulling not so much and honestly if 9-11 and a second 10 rounds don't help than you are in big trouble anyway.

For Cary is a M&P shield or Taurus PT740........ IMHO big enough.

This is what I wear I'm 6'2" and 230lbs. This thread has a picture of mine on. I cary an SD40VE daily and it is hidden whether my shirt is tucked or untucked. I even wear it playing golf with no problems. I also carry it at around the 430-5 o'clock position.

I carry mine OWB in a "Bulldog Cases" Belt Slide (large) which is a leather pancake style holster that holds it tightly agains you "BOD".

On ocassion it's carried in an Uncle Mike's IWB holster.

Loose (read baggy) shirts are comfortable and hide said rigs.

I use a sticky-holster from Sticky Holsters | Redefining Concealment
There are various ways to carry with it. You can adjust the cant and depth any way you need to. Works great for me and my SD40VE. I have even carried a Glock 20 with it.

I also have a remora holster but I find the sticky much more comfortable especially when against bare skin.

I have carried my SD9 for a year now in a FOXX IWB tuckable holster. I know what you mean about the butt end of the gun poking out, to combat this I tuck my shirt in and with the natural gathering you get from the tuck it provides room for the handle to be hid. If I wear it with my sirt untucked it does poke a little more, but most likely no one will be looking, or know what that poke is. It certainly is not in the shape of a gun. Get a good leather/kydex hybrid holster and try tucking or other methods of dress and it will work great for you. Great gun, great to carry, at times a little heavy, but always comforting.

I've never liked IWB holsters, they just never were comfortable to me.

I carry a full size (5") 1911 45 auto. I have several OWB holsters that work well for me; a 3 slot pancake works best, but I have others that work well too.

Just picked up an SD9VE and so far the only holster I have is the Blackhawk CQC Serpa. I am very pleased with this holster for now, but until I get more rounds through the SD to be comfortable, I'm not going to spend any more money on holsters for it. I have my sights on the DeSantis that is made for the SD series, but at $50, I'll wait a bit.

I'm always conscience of carrying my 1911, but unless someone is really looking, no one knows I'm carrying but me. And during summer/warm weather I only wear a t-shirt. White doesn't conceal as well as darker colors, you'll eventually find things that work for you, and you'll become more comfortable in the process.
