There are a lot of variations in how S&W went about making their semi-autos over the years. They all are great guns, but ive notices the type which always stops me in my tracks at the gun store are any with Rabbit-ear sights. Curved grips ,Adjustable sights, and rounded trigger guard represent the "Holy Triad" of S&W semi autos. If I see those three features I wont care about the caliber or finish, just how many days are left until payday. That said, I have been known to accept a square trigger guard model on occasion, just to broaden my horizons. :D

After reading another post about someone else's preferences being Novak sights, whats the "Holy Trinity" mean for you fellow aficionados ?

& unidentified cigar (my new favorite is Nat Sherman Hampton or Rocky Patel Royal Vintage)

I guess it's a tossup between these two...

Curved grips, Novak non-adjustable sights and rounded trigger guard for me! And I like the Mec-Gar 17rd 5906 mag, love the way they slanted the bottom cap to dovetail into the frontstrap.

I prefer the flat grip, adjustable sights and round trigger guard. But I like S&W 3rd Gens like I like my women; all different shapes, sizes and colors. :D

Round trigger guard and prefer the straight back grips. I can go either way on sights. Had adjustables on my 5906 and never had to adjust them. :)

Night sights, single sided manual safety, low profile levers, bobbed hammer, with a DAO first trigger pull and SA after that.

Everything you need, nothing you don't.:)

For me the one Perfect S&W Semi is one I really want and don't have, and I don't think I'll ever be able to justify the price. It is the 945. There is just something about that gun that makes me want it, but at $1500+ :(

I've seen you post pictures of this one before, and I love it! If it only had the straight grips, then it would be perfect! :D

That's a nice thing about then, swapping them is easy enough to do. For me, the front sight's just too low with the straight backstrap.

Okay, I'll put some on and take pictures of it that way.;)

I think the 39 is the nicest looking Smith auto.

But my perfect Smith auto is a 5906 with Novak non-adjustable sights, round trigger guard, straight grips and 17 round Mec-Gar mags.

Craig19,

How are the 17-round Mec-Gar mags? Any good? I know they make almost everybody else's mags. I'm curious how they feed. Thanks.

Greg

I guess it would depend on which purpose its for.
If it were for going to the range I'd truly like to have a 639 with a good custom barrel, trigger job and some really good sights. I love the feel of the 39 and I'd actually do one up but I think it would be ridiculously expensive since the barrel would be a one off custom proposition.
I suppose almost as good would be a 952, should definitely have bought one of those when they were around.
For carry its a little different. I'm not sure that the M&P .45 Compact isn't a pretty darned good contender although I'm pretty enamored of the tsw 4513 I picked up recently.

They are good, feed fine. I haven't put that many rounds through them, but haven't had a problem yet. They seem to be pretty high quality. I really like Mec-gar.

For me it would be the 4040PD with night sights (I still need to get a set for my carry Model 4040). For me its the perfect size and weight for every day carry during the summer and its fun to shoot too.
