That's a nice early Model 66!

My issue is that I can't trace the serial number to one that makes sense in this thread. At introduction the intial serial numbers are in excess of this one.

They were introduced at K949100, much less than that one.
They didn't start showing up with regularity until the 2K5's.

With respect to data collection, how do you determine the ship date?

You can get a History Letter from the the S&W Historian, if it's new enough (1986+) S&W CS could tell you the ship date, and/or there's a section in the Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson that you can use for reference.

My NIB condition 19-3 Nickel 9K44XXX with cousin 66-2 AFY1XXX. The 66 has TH,TT, RR, WO and a trigger stop from the factory.

The 2 1/2 inch guns a 19-5 in blue with 66-4 in high polish 'pimp' stainless.

19-3 6 inch with factory full target treatment. Shipped in 1971 2K36XXX

Now, all I need is to find a 6 inch 66 like the one I had then sold in my early 20's!

Time to share my "new" 19-2, 3-screw. Leaf screw doesn't have the -3 modification. That is, it is centered directly above the front face of the cylinder, not the gap. The numbers on the inside of the Target grips and the Magnas don't seem to match each other or any number on the gun but they fit.

Yup. "KT357" and "5950" stamped in ink on the left half. If I recall correctly, the right half only has the "KT357".

The Magna left half has nothing but the right half has a six digit number relief stamped different than the serial number of the gun.

KT357 is the factory designation for a Model 19 Combat Magnum and the part number for the stocks (until the early/mid '70s) was:
5949 - Stock, Goncalo Alves Target, right
5950 - Stock, Goncalo Alves Target, left

On the magnas, they only numbered the right panel. Square butt Model 19's came with target stocks so that number is the serial number of the revolver they came on, minus the letter.

My 19-4 4 inch serial number 41K9570. I purchased it at the Heidelberg Rod and Gun Club in Germany in 1976. I have tools for it but no longer have the box.

I sold one the next day just like that for $650 at a gun show. I bet you got yours for a lot less than that Nice handgun. I sold mine to finance another project. I have more and mine just didn't seem right. It shot OK, not great and I liked by other 19's a lot better. Mike

Picked this one up on Tuesday. Finish is in really good condition, but the stocks do have some "dings". Serial number 7K56023.
