I unfortunately have a serious FTE issue with my "new to me" 15-22P

With the bolt assembly removed my ejector has "play" of approximately 1/16" fore and aft and side to side is approximately 1/32"

Should it be in a fixed position or is this "floating" normal?

I do believe you are correct Sir

Was curious if you ever sent yours in for repair and what the outcome was? I am having the exact same issue right now, only mine has failed to eject a few times today while out at the range. Noticed the ejector was loose during cleaning.

I just got mine back on Wednesday from S&W for the same problem. I sent in in 6 weeks prior. They replaced the ejector and the bolt. Took the gun to the range and ran 500 rounds through it trouble free. I am very satisfied with S&W's customer service. Just FYI, I had approx. 30,000 rounds through it before the ejector came loose.

Glad they fixed it but personally I would not be satisfied with 6 WEEKS to turn it around. That is ridiculous.
Having 2 MP 15-22s I may just order up a spare bolt as a backup....

Are they still returning warranty guns with a new mag? Maybe I need some work done on mine!:D

They will send you an email with a fedex tracking number when they ship it out to you. That's funny because I was starting to get worried that my rifle had been lost in the mail or something. I was getting ready to call S&W, but when I picked up my phone I saw that I had a new email, and it was them telling me it was on its way home.

Glad to hear it was fixed, I just don't know if I want to part with it for that long, lol. But I have already contacted them for the warranty work and sadly mine only has about 800 rounds through it and noticed it was loose last night when I got home from the range. Thanks for the info.

Yeah, I know what you mean. I tried to nurse mine along with a loose ejector for a while. It wasn't bad at first, but after a while I could only get a couple rounds off before it would fail to eject or stovepipe. At that point I really couldn't use the gun, so I figured I might as well send it in now while the ammo situation is all messed up. I was hoping it would have calmed down by now, but hopefully it will by summer. You might as well get it fixed now so that its good to go for the summer. Good luck!

Just figured I would throw an update up here. I never heard back from S&W after requesting repairs on my rifle and since I really didn't feel like being without for a few weeks, I took matters into my own hands. Grabbed a barrel nut wrench and barrel vise from Tacticool22, got in this afternoon in the mail. The flash hider was the bigger pain to get off, but after that all was smooth. Pulled the barrel out and was able to see they pushed the pin too far through (my guess anyway) that it was barely grabbing the ejector. So i just grabbed a punch and moved the pin back the other way over the ejector and now it's tight like it should be. Probably hit the range this week sometime to test it out and make sure I got everything tight enough.

I had this problem with my M&P 15-22. I made a tool up to remove the barrel. Once the barrel was removed the barrel extension is pinned with 2 roll pins. One of the pins tensions the ejector by tapping it further into the hole.
Unfortunately mine was so loose that further investigation was required. With a punch I drove both roll pins out. Once there out the barrel extension comes off with the ejector. Once the ejector was removed the fault was established really quick. Where the roll pin had not fully engaged against the ejector it had worn a small divet on the ejector which made it loose when fitted.
Since I live in the UK I can't get spares for this and I didn't want to wait several weeks for the gun to be sent back and forth.
The solution was to gently fill the divet using a MIG welder; grind/file the weld down to how it should be.

I refitted the ejector and barrel extension to the barrel. Refitted both roll pins, ensuring the roll pin against the ejector has pinned it solidly.
Refit the barrel etc. I assembled the rifle and checked function with a dead case and it works perfectly. The ejector is rock solid and I'm happy again.
I hope this fix helps someone else!

Looks like this might be a very common problem with the 15-22. Mine was faulty right out of the box. FTE's every 5-7 rounds even with trying every .22lr ammo I could get my hands on. I brought mine back to my local gunshop and he handled everything. 4 weeks later the gun was back and it has been awesome since. Since Smith didn't give me the extra magazine the shop owner said they would and he couldn't get any at the time he took one from a new rifle and gave it to me. One of the many reasons I spend my money there. The only reason I mention it is I don't believe they (Smith & Wesson) send the extra magazine for the inconvenience anymore. Not a huge deal considering the price for the rifle is now about $200 less than what I paid a year ago and the mags are now much easier to find.

Since the repair it has only left smiles on everyone's face that shoots it. Now if I could just find a reasonably priced 15-22p!
