I know a lot of good people live in the bad areas of Chicago (not by choice). There is more black-on-black crime than ever. Every day, young black children are shot in-and-out of their homes, by gunfire, because citizens of Chicago can't arm themselves for self defense. Gangbangers have no rules. They know its hard (now) to meet the requirements to own a gun in Chicago. Home invasions of the elderly in poor neighborhoods where grandma and grandpa are tied up and have their throat cuts or are shot for what little social security money or savings they may have occur quite frequently. Many elderly are hesitant in using modern debit cards, or direct deposit. They want cash-in hand. They then become one of the easiest targets.
When one fears that grandma may shoot your rear if you try to rob her, fully knowing no one will like to try to charge grandma for doing so, the message will start to sink in. If concealed carry in Chicago is ever approved, from grandma on down, the city itself, no matter how much money you have or have not, no matter how affluent of an area you live in or not, life will get a little better...slowly.
Cab drivers are shot for what little cash they may just have in their wallets....despite the "swipe the card" upgrades or bullet proof shields they have in their cabs.
The police can't be everywhere.
