I went to a LGS this morning and saw a model 28, matching numbers to grips faint turn line and over all condition I would call 98%, thinking of getting it Price a bit high at $695.00, but I am in Massachusetts where everything is high and most things are illegal, Just wan't some input, also I have not seen one for sale in mass for a while. I may go back nexy week and if still there see if he will take $650.00.

In SE Florida a clean but used 4" "N" serial 70's era gun without box or docs is about $500 ,
The 6" version is usually slightly less than the 4" but not by alot.
The 60's era "S"serial diamond grips guns are more ,
Clean 4 and 5 screw versions are considerably more.

Around here with the recent price increases on the Model 28 the price would be $500 to $550 for a 4 inch and slightly less for a 6 inch.

High

That sounds a bit high, a six inch with matching grips last fall at a small show that I set up at, another vendor had one on the table for $425 needless to say it sold fast.

Looked at a 4"Mod 28 yesterday with box and papers.Marked as "Unfired"???? on the tag.Shop owner who I know and have bought from before handed it to me and asked my opinion. He believed it to be only fired at the factory.I had to agree with him.Wants 595.00.Thinking I need to go back there and bring it home.Especially after looking at Gunbroker last night.

A10,it is a dash2 and I could probably get it out the door for that price. This guy always has some wiggle room built into his prices.I agree it is kinda high and I'm really wrestling with it right now but after what I've seen in various shops and on line it ain't looking that bad.By the way I am a weak man.I could not see any flame cutting at all.Still mulling it over.

If you like it, get it! As I have often said, they are not making them any more. My opinion is tempered by my current supply of Highway Patrolmen, and I am only shopping for a first year four inch now.....If you do get it, we need pictures and a range report!

I am in Mass as well, and I would say that is a bit overpriced. I picked up a beautiful 28-2 (I would say right about 98%), sans wooden stocks, in West Springfield for $450 before tax. I have seen three of them around here lately, running between $425 and $550.

If you are patient, you are sure to see another soon. Though I imagine that 28 won't fly off the shelf priced the way it is, so waiting a week to make a counter-offer may be prudent.

If you're remembering the East Berlin Fish and Game Show, that 28-2 is in my safe. Not a bad deal at all for $425. Looked like it spent it's life in a dresser drawer.

To the OP, a gun is worth only as much as you're willing to pay. I 've overpaid a few times to get what I wanted and I still smile when I pull them outta the safe.

Prices right now are ALL over the place.

I saw an N serial # 28-2 4" with Pachmayr grips today at a gun show (Palmetto, FL) for $675. No box, rubber grips,it was a 90% gun. $675, on the second day of the gun show around noon, not willing to deal at all.

It was also the ONLY N frame 357 magnum in the building.

I stick to my belief that a model 28 is worth no more than $450-$500 unless it's darn near perfect and with box and all that stuff.

$675 is just lunacy.

I am going to take another look at it on tuesday and go over it with a fine tooth comb also don't know if it includes original box, it is a 4'' and it's so darn pretty, I know it will come home with me if he is willing to deal. I will let you know, thanks for all the input.

I'm the wrong guy to ask... I don't think I paid more than $400 for any of these Highway Patrolman.

at that price, DONT fall in love.........thats about $200 too high.

Oh believe me I don't want to pay that price, but here in Massachusetts we have whats called an approved firearms roster. If the gun isn't on the list it can't be brought into this state to a dealer, you can only get one that is already here. That's why we deal with inflated prices. Hopefully in 10 years I will be out of this state. I know if I hunt around I could find a better price, I want it as a shooter, but I don't think I will find one in this good of a condition. I am going to check around tomorrow and see what I can find. then I may see if he will take $625.00 for it, if not I will walk.
