Almost escaped the local gunstore / range and drifted by the used case on the way out. I saw the familiar shape of a third-generation S&W there amid the newer black plastic pistols - and found it was a CS 9. Picked it up, examined it a couple of minutes, and then called for paperwork and a pen.

That was a few hours ago and I have already ordered some Big Dog grips for it as I can't stand Hogue grips on anything at all, let alone a pistol this elegant and small.

From reading on this site it seems the earlier models had a single-side safety / decocker (like mine) and later ones had them on both sides - is that correct?

What were the production years of this pistol? My impression was that they weren't made too long, but I don't know.

Can anybody suggest a good OWB holster for this pistol?

This pistol has a very interesting and seems to me unique recoil spring, with these wide, flat coils. Wouldn't it be a good idea to order another one from S&W while they're still available?

In any event, I am hugely pleased with the purchase. Thanks in advance for any answers to the above.

It's always a good idea to stock up on important parts like that and maybe an extra mag or two while you can still get 'em from the factory.
If you enjoy shooting that one as much as I do my CS45 you'll probably need 'em sooner or later!

I'm pretty much just into revolvers (and for that matter ,just j-frame 38's) these days, but I really like the looks of those CS's. I can't believe that Smith quit making semi-autos like that & only builds plastic whizbangs nowdays. What'd ya have to give for it?

You did very well. I have been looking for one for 2 years without any luck. At that price I hope you can sleep tonight.

You did very well. Two years ago I bought a carbon steel version for $379.00 with two magazines, but no box. So, I'd say you got it below market value.

There are still a few bargains out there in 3rd generation semis, but people are starting to catch on.

I gota see these big dog grips?

Every one make's such A fuss about them? Don't get me wrong. I'm not being Fascias I'm A hardware Guy I need to hold them in my hands. At least get A good look at them

Check out the Don Hume holsters for it on Ebay, $30 and they work great.

Big Dog grips? I never laid eyes on a set and know they have got to be better than these Hogue grips on the CS 9 made of sticky flubber or whatever they are.

I though there would be A problem with the short stock only able to get two fingers around it UN consciously? But was pleasantly surprised with houge grips on C.S.45.

flat spring?

I was also wondering If that green flat spring was original?

CS45 is on my very short list. I am green with envy:) Congrats on a beautiful .45 and a very good price.
I was trying to deal for one recently but it didn't work out.. everything in its time. Like you...I hope to stumble onto one when I least expect it. The big secret to that is ...have cash with you... always!

Congrats

I finally found one myself Saturday after several weeks of searching at the big funshow here in Louisville. Got a CS9, 3 mags, orig box, but no papers and all seems to be 99% condition. Got a heck of a price on it too. Haven't got to the range with it yet, but pretty anxious. Sure wish there were more accessories out there for it.

Congratulations on a great purchase. I picked up a cs45 about a year ago. Though it was a nice little piece for $300. I didn't know anything about it or what 3rd gen's were. I picked up a little throw away sticky holster to try carrying it occasionally. Needless to say after shooting it and carrying it for a couple weeks, I went to my leather guy and had him make me a tuckable holster for it. I can't even tell it there most of the time. If you are ever in Daytona, go to the Flea Market and see the leather guy. There is only one there. Byrd's Leather. Amazing work. He only charged me $45 for my holster, and made it while I stood there. I hope you enjoy your CS as much as I do.

Excellent find!!! :D

That gun is on my short list... I've never held one, never seen one, but the lines are so clean, the reputation is so stellar, and I only have ONE 3rd gen!!!

Before this thread sinks, can anybody answer the question about the years of production of the CS 9?
