I would like to tighten up my mags. Could someone post a picture of the dimple placement on the magazines or tell me if and where it is posted?

Also, on Page 5 of this thread, post #233 has an image that may be helpful.

As far as the looseness of the magazine in the magazine well is concerned... it may just be the nature of the beast (very compact little beast in this case :p).

I too would like to know what trueblue40's frame change was all about.

Maybe they found an unrelated manufacturing defect when they examined the gun. Or maybe one of the smiths slipped with a tool and damaged the frame, and they had to replace it. Who knows...

I just wanted to say thanks to everyone who is filling this thread with good information. I planned to buy a 9mm Shield, but I stumbled upon a 40 in stock on Bud's Police Supply and jumped on it, despite the reported issues. So far I've had two range trips with the gun with no problems. I did add the bump to my magazines before firing it, it seemed like a good idea. I also had to drift the front sight left, it was far right in the dovetail. Accuracy is surprisingly good, one big ragged hole on target after a box of ammo at 7 yards. The trigger is fine and I feel it is a safe pull weight. Recoil is stout but easily controllable.

I have the gun fully loaded right now as I would carry it. Tomorrow I will fire those 14 rounds (Win Ranger T-Series 180gr) along with 50 more rounds of FMJ. If the gun gives no issues it will become an EDC.

Called Smith&Wesson today about the mag drop problem. they told me i had to send the shield back for repair. they are sending me a fed ex label and instructions to ship.

Got my Shield back yesterday (DXT####) from Smith and Wesson for the mag drop issue and they say they "Replaced Mag" and "Range Tested/Meets Spec". Looks like they dimpled my existing mags to me. Drove straight from FedEx to the range and ran 150 rounds through it without any issues using both the 7 round mag and the 6 round mag.
It was a fun time and very nice to not worry about the mags disengaging, amazing how much better you shoot!

Looks like my shield .40 is on it's way back to me, it went out for delivery today. I should recieve it by 4 30 pm. I am very interested to see what they did. I am sure they just dimpled the mags and perhaps changed the mag catch. I'll keep you all posted...

Also it appears repair time has increased as i sent mine out on September 6th and i am just now getting it back. Expect about 3 weeks total if anyone has just sent theirs out.

I have two M&P 9 Shield's and haven't had a problem yet. Is this issue only with the Shield in .40 S&W?

FedEx delivered my .40 Shield today!

My .40 Shield arrived back from S&W today:).

19 days from me shipping to them and receiving it back. That is pretty good turnaround to me!

S&W Repair order stated:
Replaced Mags
Range Tested/Meets Spec

The new mags do have the "bump" on the mag catch slot others have mentioned. Have not had a chance to shoot it yet, but I assume they corrected the Mag drop problem. Will post result after I shoot it.

I just got my shield back from Smith and Wesson..
repair order says they just replaced the mags... both Mags have the little bump in them that everyone has been reporting. They did not replace the mag catch as I assumed they might.

I got my .40 Shield back today - new magazine catch and 2 new magazines with the "bump". I ran 50 rounds through it this afternoon and it functioned flawlessly. I'll put another 100 or so through it tomorrow. I'm guessing they have it figured out now..... Another few hundred rounds, and this will be ready to be my daily carry.

do tell on the feed issue!

I was having a feed issue with HST round with large cavitity on the end that got hung up on the end of the ramp. I did not have problems with say the Talons or Gold Dots just the HST. I polished the ramp and rounded off the end of feed ramp, now it will any handle defense round. I don't know about your feed ramp but my was razor sharp.

Got my shield40 about a week and a half ago. Ser#DXY2...... and alittle over 200 round and no problems, and no bumps on the mags.
Hopefully they cured the problem with the new or latest ser# run.

2x... i just cant put down my colt 45 hehe

That's how I feel about my S&W 1911 - when I go to the range, no matter which gun I plan to shoot, I wind up spending 2/3 of my time with the 1911. It's smooth and very accurate - at 15 yards, 50 rounds can be covered with a pack of cigarettes except for 1 or 2 strays....
