Not to be a kill joy here about buying mags, but what happens if the feds decide to outlaw any mags over 10 rounds ? I know there are many states that already limit mag count.My Mass 15-22 came with the 10 round, because thats all they allowed there.
Would be easy enough to outlaw any detachable mag over 10 at the same time the ban goes into effect.
Im thinking about looking into buying the 10 rounders right now instead. What you think?

i wonder too...in oregon theirs talks about limiting them to 10 rounds as well. hate to keep buying 25 round mags when eventually they'll be illegal.

You know, instead of scrambling around to buy all of the mags that you can.

You might want to think about sending a check to the NRA-ILA, the second amendment foundation, GOA or any other gun rights group that you like. This can and will help our cause much more than panic buying.

Get a mag block like those of us in CA have been doing for years. No big deal.

My choice would always be high cap mags blocked versus 10rnd short mags. Cost is near same & if the laws ever change positively - which they can just look at the recent CCW change in IL or the fact the AWB was not originally extended - or the SHTF & you can unblock your mags and be GTG.

I am now, just ordered 3 more from .44 Mag.com. They show 100+ in stock as of this afternoon.

I ordered 8 coyote colored mags from them today (They are in stock but may take up to 20 days to ship due to volume)..
Yesterday I orded 5 black mags and 5 P Mags for my MP 15 from Cheaper than dirt..(Ok base price but their shipping costs suck).. BTW they just jacked up their remaining mag prices out of sight...

I'd guess the gov. could offer a buy back bill requiring all high cap mag owners to turn them in for a voucher to buy 10 round mags from a variety of suppliers that are working with the fed. gov.
If a law is passed outlawing all high cap mags one thing the feds could do would be to have authorities go to shooting ranges...court order needed??? no idea just making guesses...and ask shooters to show their mags...At first they may/could just ask for the outlawed mags and issue vouchers on the spot...after a "grace" period ended they could/might/??? confiscate the mags and weapons and possibly arrest the possessor of the gun.

If I were the person put on the spot to remove high cap mags that is how I'd do it.

This is just my opinion. The so called President has to show that he doing something, this will take months or even years to enforce. The problem is everyone is buying and the dealer are ripping the reward of his speeches. I was buying some 30.30 rounds at Academy and people buying anything they could afford, most of the guns they were buying were c..p. If your a NRA member, you might what to ask them why they been so quiet and why aren't they standing up for our rights, they don't have any problem asking for money. Unfortunately, I think the NRA will not fight the assault weapons ban. I am not exactly pro or against assault rifles, I don't think you need 25 rounds to go deer hunting and that will be the arguement. However, if they ban assault rifles it will open the gateway to work on semi-auto pistols. The news had no problem showing a Glock and I think the other was a Sig. Now I have a problem with that. As someone posted earlier in this thread it all about disarming America and control. I am sure I will get blasted for this, but more people bought the assault rifle to defend themselves when SHTF. More power to you, but if you just starting to buy ammo, good luck with that. I been buying ammo every month for 2 years about 1000 rounds 75% SD rounds and 25% for pactice. My suggestion would buy a good sniper rifle and tell them it for hunting. Another suggestion is remove your NRA Sticker or any other sticker that suggest you are carrying a gun or you will draw attention to you, your car or your truck. The later suggestions are not mine but a couple of cops that are friends of mine. That's my 2 cents.

Just tried to order a few mags from Midway and got this message when trying to order 5....

I don't think they care as much about helping customers as jacking up the shipping and handling costs a couple bucks and take in more orders. Just my opinion though.

Check Article 1, Section 9 & 10 of the Constitution. It deals with ex post facto law which basically says the federal government and the states cannot pass retro active laws.

But if you read it, it deals with acts, as in committing an act, not an item. They can say that it wasn't illegal to BUY the item, the buying being the act, but they can determine that an item is no longer legal. Look at the prohibition, you didn't technically get in trouble because you had bought alcohol, it was because you were caught with an illegal item. The ex post Facto is like saying you parked your car than they made it a handicapped parking spot type thing. You weren't committing a crime when you parked. Now here's where it doesn't cover items- say you were in California and legally bought marijuana, than drove across state lines and got caught with it, are you going to get in trouble? Yes. Doesn't matter that it was legal when you bought it, the fact is when they caught you with it, it wasn't. Acts being committed are all it covers. So if a high-cap ban went in to effect, you couldn't be charged for buying it when you did, but could be for being in possession of an illegal item.

Interesting point. I wonder if any of our attorney members will chime in here? Frankly, if losing the high-cap mags is the worst thing that happens I can deal with it. Swapping a mag at the range really isn't a problem. I only use the 30s because they are cheap and available.

Ya I guess I should put a disclaimer on that- this is just my understanding based on reading the text. Wikipedia Ex Post Facto law and you can read it. I agree on if I have to give up my 30's, or even my 60, I think I could handle it. I sure wouldn't like it, and it would make my slidefire not any fun, but at least I keep my gun. I hope...

Ya I guess I forgot to check for 15-22 mags there. I looked for .223 mags this morning at 44mag, midway, and CTD and were all sold out. I found one on amazon for $60!! :$ when I was at midway the "Users who bought this also bought..." came up with the 15-22 mags so I thought I'd check them out. As I already have like 6 or 7 of them, I think my money would be better spent on ammo though. That, and I'm pretty sure someone's getting a black dog 50 rd drum for Xmas anyway

I bought two 25 round mags along with some other stuff at Cheaper Than Dirt a couple of days ago for my 15-22 and they have e-mailed me that they have been shipped. I too really don't care about 10 round instead of 25 round as I just use it for marksmanship practice. BUT: Here's the thing. You and I both know that this is a feel good knee jerk reaction to what happened and we all know it won't stop another tragedy. How long does it really take to change a mag, seriously!
The anti gun lobby knows it also, they are not stupid, the next time we have a similar tragedy they will say "see we didn't go far enough." Then watch out!
As for why the NRA has remained silent so far, during this period of emotion and mourning I believe that it was the respectful and appropriate thing for them to do. Unlike certain anti gun politicians who rushed to the closest microphone to use the tragedy for their political purpose.
My plan: be reasoned and respectful in my responses to all discussions on gun control and know my facts and teach.

I have 4 - 30 round and 2 - 20 round magazines for 5.56 rounds. They worked perfectly in an M-16 the last time I used one. Haven't used them in quite awhile, do not have an AR-15 and probably will not purchase one (I plan on sticking with 22lr for a long time).

I'm not sure what to do with them, but I know a lot of people are looking to acquire more.

Is this something I could post in the classified section? Any idea what they would be worth? I'm not looking to gouge anyone.

Yes you could put them in classified section I believe. But with supply and demand, you might be better off just holding on to them. If SHTF, they'd be worth more as bartering tools. That being said, it would depend on what type they are as to how much they're worth.

Well, I think every dealer that ran out of magazines will be ordering more and then some, since pretty much all dealers are out do the math, extra long back orders, kind of like the primer shortage of 2008-2009

On another note, its true you don't "need" 30 round magazines for hunting, but the 2nd amendment makes no mention of hunting so it shouldn't even be a topic for discussion.

I'm a Sig guy when it comes to semi auto's and after the first election of our current pres I loaded up on 9mm and 40 S&W hi cap mags for my two Sig P226's. That said today I went up and ordered two 15 round mags for my Sig P228 because I could and I don't know what's lays ahead for us.
