Hope everyone is set on magazines

New guy here. Got my 15-22 last Thursday but have not shot it yet. I ordered three 25rd mags last night from the Smith&Wesson store on the S&W website. $20.00 ea. I figured if anyone would have them, the factory would. Score!

Great idea but that doesnt mean they have them in stock. I'm seeing backorders of 4 to 5 weeks on average.

Nothing is going to happen to ban high capacity mags and assult weapons... and here is why I have this opinion:

1) Various members of Congress our just blowing off steam and looking for media time... it will blow over.

2) Obama delgated the role to Biden... so things will not be that important or taken as serious, but Obama can say he tried or his office did something... and blame Biden if nothing happens.

3) Congress has the "fiscal issues" of the US to handle first, which is a bigger to all Americans than any weapons ban... and will be in the "news cycle longer.

4) Many gun manufactures are based in states that have Democrat Congressman and Senators... so if their businesses and jobs suffer, I do not see these "elected Democrat's" voting to ban weapons and other things that affect businesses in their districts or states!!

5) The NRA proposed "armed gaurds and police in schools this past week and was criticized by the liberal media... yet Bill Clinton stated the same "idea" and recommendation after the Columbine school shooting in 1999... so the media and Liberals will end up seeing that their "attacks" are false and do not work when a true and open debate is allowed to take place.

I too, do not like the scary talk of "bans" that is out there... but I do not think that anything will even make it to a vote that will ever pass both houses of Congress, which it will take!!!

BTW - I have 5 magazines for 15-22, which is enough for me.

I agree with much of what you say, but you are failing to take into consideration what individual states may do. Those states without serious restrictions will probably do nothing.

Those states with serious restrictions or a an AWB already in place will be attacking with a vengeance. Connecticut's rabid anti-gunners (which we have managed to keep at bay so far) have already said they will introduce bills to do the following:

- completely re-define what constitutes an "assault rifle".
- ban the manufacture, sale or possession of any feeding device holding more than 10 rounds.
- prohibit anyone not legal to own a firearm from buying ammunition.
- require the same kind of permit to purchase ammunition as is required to carry a handgun.
- enact severe limitations on the sale and purchase of ALL semi-automatic firearms.

Also rumored but not actually mentioned are mental evaluations before the purchase of ANY firearm.

Connecticut considers ANY rifle that meets its AWB criteria to be an "assault weapon", irrespective of the cartridge it fires. This includes the 15-22, the Colt M4 OPS 22, the Colt M4 .22, the Ruger SR-22, and all other similar .22s AND those with aftermarket tactical stocks.

So you see, some of us are very worried, no matter what congress does.

Connecticut is overwhelmingly democrat-dominated and pays NO attention firearms manufacturers here. In the last 15 years over 75 percent of the firearms makers have moved out of state due to the business and political climate here. Every single member of congress from this state has already publicly stated that they will support whatever Obama wants.

S&W is located Massachusetts and that state is worse than Connecticut. New York is the same as Mass - they really don't care what the firearms industry in their states say.

Your point is invalid, based on political reality.

Just noticed the charge on my debit card for the mags dropped off so something must be up. Very misleading for the S&W store to allow you to go through the "check out" process thinking they actually have the mags in stock. NOTHING during the "check out" process indicated the mags are on backorder. I'm pissed. Won't order from the store ever again.

I am 51 years old. My perspective is over a few election cycles and events. If you dont have a 100 magazines, pounds of powder, and primers purchased during the quiet times...you are not a survivor, you are a victim. This did not start yesterday. For you young folks we look back to 1986 when machine guns were banned.

Life is a continuing educational process. If some lessons are not learned the first time, they will be repeated. Go read the book Unintended Consequences.

This overly-comfy position that some are taking that "everything's gonna be ok," is what got us here in the first place. It got BO re-elected.

You are so right! Too many firearms owners live with their heads in the sand and adopt the attitude of "It can't happen here!"

Those who ignore history are doomed to repeat it!

Russell, fully automatic firearms were regulated long before 1986 (although I know what you meant.) It was the National Firearms Act of 1934 that prohibited private ownership of automatic firearms without the $200 tax stamp we have today.

Aside from that, I absolutely agree with you. We should have all stocked up WAY before this.

Dont forget today is Sunday a non-banking day so the pending charge may have have gone through but just not posted to your account until tomorrow morning whenever your bank processes the charge.

Nothing a phone call in the morning cant solve to both the bank and S&W.

Good luck and keep us informed
