stuff you like to shoot with your 15-22

I can only shoot at paper around here. The only outdoor range around is a WMA and they don't like you shooting at anything not paper and has to be high enough that the bullet will hit the berm not the ground. They dont care if you're shooting a pistol at 10 yards, if they see the bullet hit the ground you're gone.

So I'm reading some things about bowling pins on here and I thinking what a great idea. So where do you guys go to get these? I'm going to assume a bowling alley. How much are you getting them for?

Most alleys will give you their old pins for hauling them away. When the covers crack, they are useless for bowling.

I'm a fan of my plates....I shoot everything at them

I also shoot paper targets and when I see half busted clays at the range I shoot them up to ....just doing my part to clean up. :D

One of my all time favorite targets is a worn out harrow blade. I get them from church members who let me pick through their scrap pile. I spray paint them with flat white appliance paint. The axle hole in the plate makes an excellent aiming mark out at 25 yds. Out at 50 yds. it is still easy to see and aim at the axle hole. There is about a 4-5 inch indentation around the axle hole.

I've shot these plates with everything from .22 LR up through 9mm, .40 S&W, .45 ACP and .30-06 Springfield. The plates do last very long when you hit them with rifle fire, unless you use cast lead bullets. Then they'll last just about indefinitely. I shot one to the point that it cracked in half using .45 ACP and .40 S&W. The 9mm and .22 LR just leave a little splash mark. It is very easy to renew the target after a string of fire. You just spray it with a bit of paint and by the time you walk back to the firing line, the plate is dry and ready to be shot again.

Mostly paper at the moment, but when we're at my brother's, we'll pay a visit to Red Racks and pick up as many platters, cookie sheets, and serving trays as we can find.

A little spray paint and some cardboard cutouts and we're good for an entire weekend and then some.

homemade? I like it!:D

Yes, the plates I did buy from a guy on Ebay....I couldn't get small enough pieces of plate to make it worth making them....they were around $17 a pc when a coworker and I went in on several. The stand is homemade and works great, the best thing I did was dump the chain and put those heavy rings on there....no more broken chain when I shoot it with my .444 Marlin.:D

What kind of rings and were did you get them? Very cool.

They are the solid welded rings they sell at Tractor Supply, I got big enough rings to slide over my black pipe and have some swinging room....then I used steel S hooks to hook the targets to the rings. They solid rings and S hooks have held up great to anything I've shot at it....before anything more than a .223 and I was ripping my chain apart, the rings allow the plates to swing freely so they don't get torn up when shooting with higher power stuff. I shoot a lot of .444 Marlin and .44 mag at them with no ill effects so far.

If you take the small Coleman propane tanks, 2 for $5 at Walmart, and light a small fire behind it... Step back and give it one and enjoy!! Az desert of course! And anything that makes noise!

I'm in the process of putting in a pond on my property, so I figured I might as well make me a small shooting range for the 15-22 & my Buck Mark... while the heavy equipment is here. There are heavy woods on the side of my property with a deep ravine, maybe 30' deep. Nothing but woods & fields for miles behind that. So we set a new gate, took down some trees & sloped the top of the near bank to allow access to the bottom of the ravine. I seeded grass today & will soon set up my dueling tree & other metal targets.

I don't want to be anywhere near you when you do this. That is a the making for a shrapnel-filled disaster.

I was only kidding! I would never run the chance of being unsafe or risk a wildfire! I'm a plinkin kind a guy

Got about 20 thick wall rectangular tube steel scrap pieces 8"x10"x4" thick that we use for tac courses for the 15-22s. Dangling these by chains on the back side angles the rd into the ground. And charcoal makes for cheap 100yd fun with a bolt gun. The 15-22 targets make for great 300-500yd targets cause of the very loud cow bell type sound they produce
