Following in the footsteps of the choose 5 guns thread,

Which vehicle would you choose (can be one you don't own now) if you had to pick one to bug out due to zombie attack, plague, financial meltdown, whatever.... Even if you are staying put where you are, you still will need to get around.

I think I'd probably want an H1 Hummer.

I'd be kinda partial to the Mars Rover if they'd put a radio in it.

I think I'd be in for a nice Mercedes GL63 AMG. Everyone needs a 4x4 that turns 4.3 seconds 0-100km! You know, either that or a Prius.

As I've gotten older my idea of ideal vehicle has changed. Started with sport cars. At the Lovely and Charming urging we went through our S.U.V. decades. As of right now I'm very happy with my Cadillac S.T.S. It's a great old guy's car. I have no intention of replacing it anytime soon.

Something that flies (F18 Hornet) or something that's submersible (Seawolf class (?)) or a ship (USS Missouri). Realistically, it would probably be a boat.

my camaro, so i have smoke screen capabilities and can out run zombies besides it would look cooler when they made a movie about my heroic exploits..

second choice would be a ford raptor

WHICH CAR

THAT'S A TOUGHIE, something green with low gas consumption and small carbon footprint, arghhh ha ha ha. maybe an up-armored Hummer with a snorkel and an old browning 50 cal, or maybe the NEW Batmobile, or General LEE. I think I'll go with the new Batmobile.

Hard to say. In a SHTF scenario you would want something easy on gas, rugged and off road capable. Something fast would help also. I guess it'd boil down to my DD which is an Infiniti G37S and an F250 4X4 with push bars on the front. I would probably pick the F250 of the two because parts would be easier to come by.

I think the bottom line is it really doesn't matter. In a SHTF situation there are (probably) going to be cars and trucks everywhere. Getting gasoline or fuel is going to be the problem.

A lot depends on your geographical area. I live in SW utah. We have both wide open high desert plus high mountains, mostly BLM. I would want two vehicles. A 4 WD pickup and a good quad or side by side. Also need a trailer for the quad. Now you could get a average atv and load it in the back of the truck but then you cant haul much else. A smaller 4 wd pickup might be even better than a full size for getting back in on some trails. Useing your rules strictly for one vehicle, I belive I would say just a smaller toyota 4 wd truck with a winch would be the best. Its probley right up there with a good rigged jeep plus you could haul stuff. The biggest factor no one is thinking of if it was a doomsday event is the probility you couldnt get gas. If I knew doomsday was around the corner I would have scattered caches of drums of gas and extra tires and parts hidden. The best vehicles in the world would do you no good without gas.

Ford Raptor SVT. My dream truck. Great off road, great on road. I have wanted o e since they first came out.

I hope they still make it once they redesign the F150 next year!

Too old to change my habits now. I'll just "dance with the girl that brought me"....my Dodge ¾-ton 4-wheel drive, 6-speed, diesel pickup. She's a veritable tank, can practically pull my house off its foundation, and gets pretty decent mileage for a large pickup (16 mpg around town and between 21 and 22 mpg on the highway).
