Do you carry a revolver for CCW? Which one?

360 PD

I carry a J frame .357 stoked with 125 Grain Federal JHPs. I practice often and with reduced loads put I finish with the serious stuff. I have around 1500 rounds through it. Recoil is stout and certainly not for the recoil shy. The ammo is important. Recoil may cause other rounds to come out of the casings, binding the revolver. For reloads, I make sure that the cartridged are tightly crimped. I have had .357, 158 grain factory loads back out, binding the cylinder and i have also had factory .38 special 158s do the same. The Federals have always worked for me. Keep an eye on the ejector rod, thumb piece and side plate screws. They will shoot loose. It works for me but it isn't for everyone. I suggest you wear hearing protection. Good shooting - Mike

During the 1980's first a 3" 65....... then a 3" 66 with Spegel Boot grips...

the 90s saw me move first to a 6906......

then to a 3913NL with Hogue checkered wood grips.......... which; with a 3914 in the winter also wearing wood Hogue's, are still my most carried CCWs.

but hot summer days, like today, will find......... a 337PD Air Lite with stippled Hogue Bantam grips and XS Big Dot front sight..... in my front pocket, it rides in a uncle mikes pocket holster!

A day a the cabin or walk in the woods will see me with either my 3" 66 or a 3" .357mag. 60-10 ( a mini 5 shot 686).

Autos are great for CCW but there is just something about a S&W revolver.........

" I don't always carry a revolver... but when I do ....it's always a Smith and Wesson!!"

After several years of carrying a semiauto for EDC for now (summer) I'm pocket carrying a Bond Arms 45 ACP Derringer and have a S&W 686 Plus on order for my next EDC.

The SP101 is a fine revolver. I never could warm up to the LCR though.

I really want to love my LCR but I can't figure out if it is me or the gun that shoots terribly. I'm not an expert, but I can definitely shoot better than I can with this gun. Right now, I would not feel comfortable much beyond 10-12 feet. That is one of the reasons I got the holster for my SP, but I still want to be able to use the LCR as a pocket gun since it is so easy to have with you in any situation.

I have been carrying a 4in. 10-7 alot lately or a Webley MKIV when I am just foolin around in the yard or going into the village on errand. If I am going into the city I will switch to my Remington R1 or another full size auto most of the time but I have been known to carry my New Service 45 Colt or a 6in. 629 from time to time. Just depends on my mood at the time.

I would never mess with a man carrying a Webley. That is some serious old time hardware and anyone carrying one should not be trifled with!

I carry a 66-2 2-1/2" loaded with Hornaday Critical Defense +P loads. I am working up a load using 158gr. XTP loads in a mid-range .357 magnum load. I changed out the factory Magnas fir a pair of Ahrends RB Retro Combats, and find them much more comfortable than the originals. I carry in a Turner & Byrd OWB holster.

I like my big guns and dress around them. 95% of the time its my Rem R1 Enhanced .45acp. When I feel like a wheelgun its my S&W 27-2 4" in a high ride pancake.

My smaller ccw's are all revolvers....a 637 airweight +p, an old 36 flat latch chief's special, and an older Taurus 85UL. I also have some 44 special snubbies I carry often that are a hair bigger but not by much...a Taurus 445 titanium, and an old charter arms bulldog. The Tauruses were hand picked by me for qc and good fitment, and they have since been worked and tuned, to be reliable and trustworthy.

I've been carrying concealed since first receiving my license back in 1980. In that time, I've carried dozens of different handguns at various times, both semiautoes and revolvers, but lately I'm carrying a S&W Model 49 (no dash) in a Milt Sparks Versa Max II IWB holster. The load is 135 grain Speer Gold Dot "Short Barrel."

Hawkeye, what grips are those? I had a 1970's Model 36 that came to me with identical grips...sold the gun, still have the grips, but have no idea who made them. They REALLY fit the round butt J well, and I saved them for just in case.

thanks.

YES, at least 98% of the time. It's usually a Charter Arms .38 Spl Off Duty DAO, but also occasionally a Charter Arms .44 Bulldog and even more occasionally a Rossi 462 stainless 6 shot .357 magnum snub.

Very rarely, usually when in the woods, I carry a single action revolver, mostly a Cimmaron 5.5" Evil Roy in .357 Magnum.

I also just bought over the last weeks another Single Action, an old JP Sauer Hawes Western Marshal, 6.5" .44 mag, as well as a Smith Model 21-4 4" .44spl that is pristine and will probably stay home forever.

Very very very seldom, when I need a very very concealable gun, I carry a Keltec P32.

What has changed since last year is not very much...Traded the Rossi to my LGS, and it was sold within 2 days...
Still carry the Charter .38 Off Duty DAO and the .44 Bulldog, and occasionally the Keltec P32, but have now added a Browning 1922 also a .32, 9 shot mag. I have just started to really like these FN/Brownings and I currently have 5 of them...the new one has some wear showing, and I bought is just to carry it. And my new woods gun is a Ruger Redhawk Hunter .44 Mag, 7", although I still have the SA's, too.

Also have a pair of Ruger Security Six 2 3/4" to carry should I need extra in winter and 2 FMAP Modelo 1927's in 11.25mm...which is hard to find, so I just use .45 ACP.

I do have a few other choices, mostly for traveling, that are more car guns than carry guns..and I also found a NAA Mini revolver in .22 magnum of the type that I used to mock...till I shot it. It goes along as a hider if I'm carrying a lot of cash... seems like us old people are targets to some...

When weather and dress allows, I carry my 4" Model 19. Most days, like now when it's sticky high 80's-low 90's, my Shield goes with me.

I've added pictures to my original post in this thread (#254) and semiretired the S&W Model 37. Its sights are just too small and shiny for my old eyes. I've gone back to my Taurus 85SSUL (full length ejection with crane lock) in the same holsters. If I can come up with a S&W Model 649 or a good Taurus 856SS I'll replace the Taurus in daily carry.
