Do you carry a revolver for CCW? Which one?

Even though I have a CHL I don't carry, or at least never have up to this point. I do have a 442-1(no lock) I bought from Bud's for the purpose. I also have a very nice holster made by a well known board member.

In warm weather its the 442 with HP +p. In cold and a jacket is worn Remington 1911 .45auto or Model 27 .357.

Usually carry either a J-Frame Bodyguard revolver or the 642, all depends upon the construction of clothes being worn at the time. More often than not the revolver being carried is in my front right pocket so any one of the J-Frames in my collection will work. My all time favorite is still a late 1970's model 60 .38 in stainless steel but it is better in a conceal holster rather than a pocket holster.

Cold wether, heavy clothes=heavy guns, 625 MG, 629 3".
Lighter clothes=lighter guns, 325, 66 2&1/2 or 3".

FELLROD hit it right. I express it as "carry the biggest gun you
are able to conceal". Obviously a 4 inch K frame is so much more tactical than a 380 auto or a J frame. And carrying the biggest gun is dictated by your weather. In 95 degree heat you wont be concealing a big gun as compared to 20 degree weather!!

I carry an S&W 340PD in an Uncle Mike's holster in my right front pants pocket. Even though the gun is a .357 I load it with .38 +P. I carry a quick strip in my watch pocket.

I've got a Model 10-5 3" that I can carry in jacket weather which is not often down here in the desert. Otherwise, under a t-shirt or an untucked sport or polo shirt it's simply too obvious. For these occasions either a Glock 26 or 1961 Colt Detective Special.

I mostly carry a Colt Cobra. I like the concept of a revolver sized only slightly larger than a J-frame (Cobra cylinder diameter 1.400 vs J-frame diameter 1.3090), weighing the same as a Smith Airweight and yet carrying 20% more ammunition (6 vs 5 shots). If I can ever find a "reasonably" priced Smith Model 12 in excellent condition, I'd give serious thought to buying it.

649-3 357 magnum with CT LG105 for night time. This is the only photo I have of this unassuming little J frame.



Now If we are talking about IWB carry if conditions are right...this 3" 60-10 gets te nod with .357 magnums.

I sometimes carry a revolver. When I do, it's S&W 360J loaded with Hornady Critical Defense.

for years I have carried mod 60 no dash, love it. Recently got a shield 9mm and have been carrying it. Really like the feel of it.

The Shield looks amazingly like the Beretta Nano. I think the goal in both cases was to make a pistol as narrow as possible (just shy of 1" in width). The Shield has a safety, the Nano does not, nor does it have a slide stop (locks open on an empty mag). I think both can slip easily into a trouser pocket.

A 28-2 4" highway patrolman 357 always and sometimes I add a 686 4" 357 both in cross draw holsters. Whatever trips your trigger.

Although I carry an H&K P2000 for work, my usual OD carry gun is a 2 1/2" 66-5 in an OWB Simply Rugged pancake.

I've added pictures to my original post in this thread (#254) and semiretired the S&W Model 37. Its sights are just too small and shiny for my old eyes. I've gone back to my Taurus 85SSUL (full length ejection with crane lock) in the same holsters. If I can come up with a S&W Model 649 or a good Taurus 856SS I'll replace the Taurus in daily carry.

Well, the Model 37 is back. My older daughter and her family just moved into a ground floor apartment, and I loaned them the Taurus until we can come up with something better. Gun show next weekend.

When I do CCW a revolver it's either an old 3" Charter Arms Bulldog in a Bianchi #5 or my 4" 29-2 in a Simply Rugged Pancake holster.
