Midway magazine shipping disappointment

That's how a lot of packages ship now. It has nothing to do with Midway. They'll arrive at your doorstep. Don't worry.

Four days to deliver a statement mailed here in my home town [pop. 1,800]. It went to a sorting office 235 miles away and came back. How can that be saving money?

Here is the response I received from Midway:
Dear Cousin Vinnie,
Thank you for your email regarding our shipping methods. I apologize for any inconvenience these options have caused. When customers place orders online, they have the option of choosing the shipping methods available based on the products purchased. When using UPS Mail Innovations (MI) or UPS Sure Post (SP), you will see (USPS Final Delivery); this means that UPS will take the order from our dock and deliver to your local Post Office Hub for final delivery. If the customer wishes for UPS to make final delivery, UPS Ground must be the method chosen.
Typically, MI and SP shipping methods are one day longer and save the customer 25-40% in shipping cost based on their destinations. Our shipping page will always default to the least expensive shipping method, but you are more than welcome to change this option to one you prefer.
We thank you for your feedback and appreciate you taking the time to share your opinion. If you have any additional questions or comments, please feel free to contact us at 1-800-243-3220. Our hours of operation are Monday through Friday 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. CT. You may also email us at [email protected].
Thanks for Your Business!

I guess I didn't understand all of the options??
Lessons learned for my next order!
Thanks for all who responded to my posting.

I ordered twice last week: Ordered 8/3/13 (2 SW 17 rnd 9mm mags) est time arrival 9/9/13 received Sat 9/7 Ordered 9/5 (2 SW 10rnd .357 mags) eat time arrival 9/9 received today 9/8. I have absolutely no complaints. Rowlette

Nice thing about that is USPS will deliver on Saturday, but UPS won't unless you specify overnight with Saturday delivery. Nice to see a company looking out for shipping costs. Most don't. GARY

got home tonight and received my magazines today...I can not believe they delivered them a day early! lol. Seriously I have had no problems. I did get them a day early so I guess I am with the ones that X-Mas came early.

I made purchases personally from Larry Potterfield when he had his first little gun store west of Columbia, Missouri decades ago. He was a very nice and personable man, and I applaud the way he continues to do business. He is honest and has developed a very big operation that operates as close to a small business as any such entity can possibly do. It is nice that he has made available a non-mandatory option for shipping that is cheaper than UPS.

The last time I had something shipped from Midway I did the UPS/USPS delivery thing. Never again.

It went from Missouri to Utah, (right past Denver,) up to Wyoming then down to Colorado. The original estimated delivery was ten days, I thought yeah, right. They intentionally gave the box a Tour of The Rockies for ten days. I could have driven to Missouri, picked up the box and driven it home faster.

The difference in cost wasn't that great on this package.

Like I said, never again.

I don't understand why they don't just use usps by itself... It hardly ever takes more than three days to get anything via them...

I ordered 2 15 round magazines for my M&P 40 on Tuesday night 9/3/13. I took the ups/usps option for delivery. They were in my mailbox today 9/10/13 when I got home from work. I am satisfied with the delivery time.

I'm also not a fan of MI or SP. I've found either can add 2 or more days to delivery time.

There is an Amazon warehouse 30 miles away from me. Straight UPS or USPS orders are usually here the next day. Before I knew better, I placed an order which defaulted to SP shipping. Darn thing took a week to get here. It went on a tour of California before coming back to Nevada.

I'd rather pay a few extra bucks to get my order in a timely manner but sometimes that is not an option.

Last week I had two separate magazine orders delivered via UPS / USPS. It confused me when I tracked it on the UPS website. But overall I think the delivery time was reasonable. Both orders took 5 business days.

I'm willing to accept the UPS/USPS hybrid and longer delivery times because of the ridiculous charges for straight UPS. What I don't understand is how Midway can ship ammunition via the local post office and I'd end up in jail for doing the same thing.

I will agree that I would much rather have my orders from where ever handled solely by ups. Once USPS gets their hands on them you might as well forget trying to track your package. That being said my orders always arrive in a timely manner reguardless who delivers them. And midway has always been great about getting my packages shipped out the same day I order them.

Midway was probably just trying to find a cheap shipping price point to offer. Other, faster options are available on the order page at a higher price just like any where else. I ordered mine, it took a bit longer, but it only cost a couple of bucks to ship (which is pretty darned cheap these days) and I GOT A NEW 17 RND Mag!!! It beats the alternative, as they say. No complaints here....

What I don't understand is how Midway can ship ammunition via the local post office and I'd end up in jail for doing the same thing.
My guess is their permits... Along the same lines as an FFL/LGS being able to send pistols back to the factory via US Postal Service, while we need to ship UPS/FedEx Overnight Express. ;)

It's got nothing to do with Midway. The Post Office, UPS, & Fedex all have contracts with each other. Your shipment can start with one company, & end with another in today's cost cutting economy. I know many of the regular postal employees in my area who have high salaries & benefits are being retired early, & being replaced with new hires at a much lower rate of pay, & no benefits. I'm sure UPS & Fedex are doing the same thing. So to cut costs, they are intertwining their delivery process if it saves money. GARY

Exactly A friend of mine is a supervisor for UPS and told me
the same thing. It's not Midway, it's UPS cutting they're
costs. UPS has a contract with USPS to aide their bottom line.

I ordered one mag from Midway on Saturday. It arrived the next Saturday. He'll, I've been trying to get a spare mag for 6-8 months. I refuse to bitch. Would have probably been here sooner straight USPS Priority, but does it really matter?
