I carry the same old gun day after day after day and mostly in the same boring holster day after day. This would be my old & trusty M60-7. The only time I carry another gun is when in the woods while hiking in Bear Country and that would be my M65 stoked with 180 gr. .357's. One other exception is when I'm on my friends property hunting Pheasants I'll routinely carry a M63 (22 LR) for the Squirrel Brothers if they happen upon us. So what's the point........... ALL THREE of these guns are just about identical in their design. function, feel and handling. When I reach for my sidearm I do not have to think about which gun I took, how it operates, do I have to cock it, take a safety off, how to reload it , push this or pull that.

When carrying a SD gun it is good to be boring and know exactly what you have and how it operates, where it shoots and how to bring it into action quickly, and how to reload it. When there is an immediate threat there is no time to think about these things.

So why did I post this? I see quite a few people here and on other forums talk about rotation of their CCW's which in IMHO is a bit risky. Unless there is a specific need for a different firearm to be carried my personal feeling is that BORING makes more sense when carrying a gun.

What's your feeling?

I've carried the same 642 in a pocket holster daily ever since I got my CFL twelve years ago. I've got quite a few other handguns, but the others are relegated to the range or house guns.

Just call me Captain Dull, and not just for being a bore on the forum--that requires another thread or three.

My dashless 640, in a pocket holster and very rarely OWB, has been my carry gun every day for thirteen years, even when I had choices. Simple reason is that I trust it implicitly.

My EDC is a Glock19. I rotate very rarely. It has to be a special even. If I have to dress up an the G19 just cant fit with the wardrobe (printing or completely exposed or dress pants with no room for a IWB holster) than I carry a model 36 snubby. That happens maybe 3-4 times a year. Thats about it

guess I am boring

You are right on target Cheif 38. It has been proven using the same gun to practice and carry are essential in EDC. You know your gun and you practice until you know how much trigger pull to start your take up and you don't have to think about safeties or mechanical difficulties because you know your gun inside and out. If you carry a back up, the same applies to that gun. I dry fire and practice on the rangewith my EDC Springfield XD-.40 and I can apply the take up and stop just before the striker is released. If you have multiple targets you can move your eyes and your gun and still have the same amount of pressure at each target because you know that if a slight more additional pressure is applied, the sear will release that stricker for the shot. It take practice and can be only mastered by using the same technique on the same old boring gun.

I agree with the same carry gun everywhere, everyday. On range day, I run at least 100 rounds through my carry snubby along with practicing with my carry load and I also do dry fire practice with it daily.
I prefer owb, it's just easier for me to grab and yank rather than diggin' around in my pocket. I will pocket carry it when it's hot out and I'm wearing my Dollar General cargo shorts and a light tank top or no shirt at all.
I carry my reloads in the same place and same folding knife. I sometimes switch up on my flashlights but usually it's my Brinkmann in my homemade flashlight holder.

Carrying the same platform (design) daily makes sense to me. In the event of a life threatening emergency fine motor skills are lost, no time to think about racking a slide or safety levers unless that is how you carry every day.

My EDC is a 442 (sometimes a 642) but the platform is the same. I've seen the elephant and can attest to the fact that you will react w/o thinking, so carry rotation is not something I do, absent another revolver of some sort.

Doing just fine.

No apologies needed, chief38; you're doing just fine.

I carry a j-frame (and never more than 1) either OWB or IWB...only strong side circa 3 o'clock. Very rarely a shoulder holster when in a car for a long time. Usually a speed strip or speedloader in a pocket.

Seems to me so many folks waaaaaaaay overthink CCW vis-a-vis what gun(s), scenarios, what if's, ad infinitum to the point of hamstringing the prime objective.

For the record, have CCW'd in all 50 states and for more than 38 years... 99% of all those days... Never "made," never a non-intentional fail to fire, and, best yet, never shot anyone. Perhaps that makes me "boring," too. :p

Be safe.

I have two carry guns a 6906 and a 4006, I switch based on my concealability needs but they are close enough that I might as well be carrying the same gun. My rule has always been same gun, same place, same holster, and same way.

I understand the logic of following the same platform, but to me, it doesn't matter if I'm carrying my Sig P239, Mod. 66 snubbie, or a 642. I practice with all three. None of them have safeties. In an SHTF situation, I'm confident I can pull the trigger of any of the three and all three will go "Bang." I've been alternating carrying like this for decades. I carry a spare mag for the Sig, and I always carry the 642 as my back up firearm when I carry the 66 as my primary. I have my own set of standards and logic that works for me.

When hiking or hunting, I break my routine and carry a 1911 or a SA Frontier model in a shoulder rig. When I do that, I know what gun I've strapped on and how it operates.

So, like I said, I understand your logic, and I'm glad your system works for you. Mine works well for me.

I'm only slightly less boring.
I carry 1911's. and rotate between them.
this allows me to get the gumi bears out of one while I carry its twin.
There is no change in operation to jam me up in the clutch.

I rotate my EDC guns sometimes, usually my pre-model 37 but somtimes my M60 or one of my M36's. They're all bobbed-hammer Chief Specials so the same "manual of arms" for all.

Nearly always for me it is my 3913 (but in a fairly new Lobo OWB holster). Sometimes when I am really lazy or want something for deep concealment, I will go with my Ruger LCP.

Someone once said, "Beware of the one gun man."

Never saw a need to rotate. Not like an MLB pitching staff. No need for rest.

I rotate seasonally, since in the summer I am wearing shorts and jeans in the winter time. In the summer it's my Ruger Sp101 with a 3' barrel, 2 speed strips and an SHTF gear holster. Then when winter comes around I am wearing my Springfield XD sub-compact in a nice little leather ditty. Spring is usually the revolver, and Fall usually the XD also. When I'm more formally dressed I usually do the XD since the holster is easy to tuck around.
