I see where S&W are showing the new Model 69, a 5 shot 44 Magnum in SS apparently built on either the K or L frame. It's #162069 on S&W's web site. It's 4" built just like the new again m66. I would have bet money this would never have happened. The 69 model would have been next in line after the M68 as their 2 digit models go. Bob!!

The m69 is built on the L-frame (stated in the product description for the m69)

I would have been VERY surprised if it was on the K-frame with all the hubbub about K-frames and 357mags and forcing cone issues some have had.

All that aside, that REALLY has me intrigued!

Sounds great, but will probably be a handfull with full magnum rounds. I think I will stick with my 44 special 696 as it should carry a bit better with the three inch barrel. YMMV.

youngblood's link is not working. Is this a fixed sight gun? Someone tell me where I can get a look at this. It might possibly be the only new S&W I would be interested in.

Product: Model 69

His link works for me! You can always go to the home page of Smith and Wesson and search for Model 69.

Shut up s&w and take my money!

Seriously though two days ago I was set on my next purchase being the 500. Then I read the 66 was being brought back and have debated that over the 500 since. Then I wondered if I maybe wanted a model 60. Now this? A 44 mag in a L frame? I hope all these models stay around long enough for me to get my funds together. I suppose I do have several plastic semis that I bought early on that don't get shot anymore since discovering revolvers that could help fund these. :)

Dang you, S&W Marketing Dept! I was just thinking that the only newer gun I wanted was a 4" 629. Now, the Model 69 has my attention. Granted, a 3" barrel would be better, but 4.25" isn't too bad. I can still conceal it.

What's everyone's thoughts on a L frame holding up to a steady diet of 44 mags?

The L frame was a pretty late development, since the gun it replaced cracked, I think they over engineered it a bit.

Thanks DR505 for the link.

I don't think I'm on board with this. While the intent is good they just can't nail the complete package. To me there is no major advantage to this gun over a 4" 629. If the Factory is marketing this as a carry gun than do it right with fixed sights. Or like the Mountain Guns give it a tapered barrel.

My 21-4 TR is the slickest handling gun I own. 4" tapered barrel, round butt and fixed sights. Offer this package in a stainless 5 shot L frame .44 mag and you have a WINNER. Handloaders delight. A bit warmer than specials but not full house magnums.

Oh well I was excited for a minute.

I really like that idea Mike. :) Hey, you live in Mass, could you stop by the factory and let them know? ;)
