Two weeks ago I put 30 rounds of of Blazer aluminum with no issues. The gun was not cleaned or lubed before or after. Today I fired 3 different types of ammo. First, cheep Tulammo brassmaxx made in Bosnia in 35 rounds I had 2 FTEs. Second, 50 rounds of PMC Bronze no issues. Lastly, 20 rounds of Blazer aluminum and 1 FTE.

I do wish I had the time to shoot another box of the PMC ammo to see if the FTEs were ammo related or not. All 3 FTEs happened when I was using the 8 round magazine if that matters.

I will be cleaning and lubing today, but not sure when I will have the chance to shoot again.

Was the shield new? They need to be cleaned before you use them the first time! Cheap ammo causes problems as well.

always give a new one a clean down and light oil job

I am in the process of purchasing a Shield to replace my PF-9. Perhaps I should reconsider my decision? At least my Kel-Tec is reliable.

No the Op did not follow the manual. The manual says to clean and lube your gun prior to firing. He did not do so.

I have over 2000 failure free rounds through my 9mm Shield. I carry this gun daily and feel 100% confident that it will function to protect me or my family if needed.

My Shield is totally reliable and is cleaned after every shooting session. I couldn't ask for a better carry gun!

Guys I stated in the opening post I did not clean and lube before first fire. Kind of odd that the manual does not say anything about this in the preparing to shoot section, only in the cleaning and maintenance section. I do know it is common practice to do the pre-shoot lube on a new gun. I did break it down and inspect prior to shooting it was not dry from the factory. I did want to see it function in less than ideal circumstances with different ammo.

What I think is that the FTEs were ammo related. The ammo I shot the least of gave the most trouble, also the cheapest stuff. The best ammo directly followed and no issues in 50 rounds!

By no means am I down on the gun at all...

I will do the maintenance and try all the different ammo again and report back. Unfortunately it will probably be a couple of weeks until I get to shoot again.

Talking about a new gun, when ever I hear some one say "just go out and shoot it" it amazes me. With the potential for metal shavings and filings to be embedded in whatever lube is in the gun from the factory all your doing is possibly creating unecessary wear right off the bat. They supply a manual with every gun for a reason.

I did break down and inspect, no filings were in the gun so no worries about that.

I too just bought a new shield and had a ton of FTE' on tula brassmax. I cleaned and lubed it prior to my first range trip. I ran 100 rds of tula steel flawlessly with no issues. Then another 100 rds of brassmax and all the FTE's started. Every magazine I ran had a least one FTE, and on several occasions the slide wouldn't lock back either.

The next day after cleaning and lubing I took it back to the range and shot 100 rds of federal ammo. All flawless and without an issues.

I have ran the brassmax through my g19 before without any issues, but had some FTE's with my g26 though. I think brassmax is just underpowered ammo.

I had 3 FTEs in my first 300 rounds. Since then, absolutely no problems in the next 300. No crud ammo, however. Only brass.

I shot my new Shield9 today as part of AZ CCW instruction with range time. Not a bunch of total rounds, but not a failure to fire nor eject as shot by myself, instructor plus another student using American Eagle 115gr FMJ that I had in my range bag (wanted to see how it handled light ammo load). I did strip and lightly clean it a few days before. What a soft shooting and confidence inspiring carry pistol, me thinks! :)

Same here Pulled it out of the box cleaned it up good re oiled and dumped what i had for 9mm in it to try to make it fail.. Nothing ran flawless. Impulse buy(good deal) But now is my EDC I like the 8 round mag better at the range but the 7 is better concealed.Fat fingers
