I made my first trip to the range today with my newly purchased 9mm Shield.($349.99)

Paid $25.00 for membership(included 4 targets), $15.00 lane fee, 2 packs of 50 Federal Range Ammo(15.99 each)

I did break down the gun for a good cleaning prior to visiting the range.

I put 150 rounds through.(2 boxes purchased from range and 1 box of reloads that was a gift) No issues what so ever.

At home I was a bit worried at first because the slide would not always return completely when I would try and chamber a round. I would hold the slide then release the lock and let the slide go. I believe I was being too careful and not allowing the full tension and length of the springs to bring the slide forward.

At the range I was using the slide lock to release and send the slide forward. No issues.

As for inserting a magazine I always had the slide locked back and I never had a hard time getting it in.

At first I had issues loading ammo into the magazines but I chalk this up to being a first timer.

I LOVE my Shield. Thank you Smith and Wesson.

Sounds like a good day. Congrats on the Shield. I love mine, too, even though it's back at S&W. That gave me a chance to carry the 9c for the first time in a while. I always say if I had to sell-off guns the "modern plastic" would be the first to go...but they're still great guns.

Love my loader too, but it will cause you spend more money on ammo at the range.

The membership fee is the once a year fee and every trip cost me $15.

They did have a silver membership fee for $350 which would not cost me anything per visit, I just can't afford it yet.

Only the second range I've ever been to but the facility was very nice.

I'd be all over that $350 membership. Unlimited range time and FREE handgun rental? My range is $700/yr and $15 to rent a handgun. Or $20 a trip, or 10 passes for $150. I see yours also has a $275 unlimited membership, but without the free handgun rental. That sounds like a good value. Go 20 to times a year and you come out way ahead. Still, I know it can be hard to fork over that much at one time. Almost the price of another gun.

The range I belong to is $25 monthly with unlimited range time. Includes 4 free guest passes and 1 free gun rental per month. 16 lanes, pro shop, gun sales, viewing area with big screen's to watch sports and hang out. Even has a serving kitchen where they bake cookies all day that are complimentary along with coffee. Check it out at www.centerfiress.com. Great place.

Sounds like you were not pulling the slide all the way to the rear and then releasing it. On "most" auto-loaders they want to have the full force of the spring closing the slide with authority.

Have fun with the new toy!!!

My local indoor range charges $20/hr for lanes, $10 gun rental (need to buy range ammo), but loans ear and eye protection free. Target prices vary depending on target types.

For $150 annual membership, there is no lane or rental fee. I get a 10% discount on ammo. When I did the math, it was a no brainer. I joined. Plus it's less than 10 minutes away (depends on traffic lights), so it's real convenient to go on a whim.

Mags are real tight when new. Uplula is the way to go!

Using the slide lock as a release is highly debated.

Glad you enjoyed your first outing and welcome!!

Yes, shooting is an expensive hobby. It's easy to spend thousands a year on it. Still costs me less than a golf habit.

Range fees are all over the place. My local range is $50/year with no additional fees. It's an outdoor range though.

I'm just glad to hear you had a good time.

Dont worry bout ur stiff magizi es they will give with time. Also keep them loaded the spring is more forgiving.

I have been there. It's a nice range. Plus when you rent a gun you can "rent" any other gun they have for free as long as it is in the same caliber. The only caveat is the fact that you have to use they are ammo.

my current range (indoor) is $12 one time joining fee (includes the safety lecture) and then $10 for the day senior rate $12 regular...they have a LEO and active military rate also...they have 60 different pistols you can rent also...I am on a waiting list for a gun club that is $80 a year that has both indoor and outdoor with no range fee
