We often hear how S&W M&P's eat everything and while there is a mass amount of ammo variety out there I would imagine that there is just some brand or types of ammo that some guns do not agree with. So what I was wanting to know is what types of ammo has your M&P had issues with? Do you know it was the ammo for sure and what was the issue?

With mine, and I'll admit I have not fired a ton of rounds through it but enough to notice this one trend. My FS M&P .40 does not like Tula Brass Max. Its a brand I found at walmart and bought 100 rounds of it and through the use of 2 box's I have encountered ( I cant recall exactly how many ) failure to ejects. The last range visit I did I used up the rest of what I had left of the Tula Brass Max. I have fired other brands of ammo and have not had any eject issues with any other kinds and I have shot about an equal amount of other types of ammo as the brass max or at least enough to know if it was going to cause a problem or not. So in my experience the Tula Bass Max did not agree w/ my M&P for whatever reason. I have not seen this brand of ammo sold anywhere other then walmart.

Some time back, got a "deal" on some IMI 9mm. All I can say is, I hope the Israeli Army gets better stuff than this. Some under powered, some without primers, some without flash holes on the primer pocket. The last straw was two bullets in a row getting stuck in the bore of my Shield. Cleared one, put the mag back in, the next one stuck too. The biggest danger was the bullet was far enough down the bore for the weapon to cycle. Luckily, I was paying attention. Had I touched another off with a plugged barrel,,,,,,

I have shot six different brands of ammo through my 9mm Shield with "0" problems of any kind. Brass case, steel case, FMJ, Hollow Point and Defensive rounds. No issues what so ever.

I had a couple boxes of Winchester White that were bad. About 12% failure to fire.

The firing pins would dent the primer really good, but no bang. Tried them in several of my nines, and no bang. I could hit them 5 or six times in my 3913 and sometimes they'd finally fire.

I complained but never followed through with sending the rounds back in....

It's been a while since I've tried them again, but in the past, I've had FTFeed and FTX issues with WWB Value Packs (the UNracked 100 round boxes).
Lining up 10 rounds from the 'problem' box, there were obvious (naked eye-no need for caliper) differences in OAL, which may have contributed to the FTFeed. Also visually noticeable, was the case rims. Some were nicely squared off, while some were rounded. This could cause some pistols' extractors to slip off and cause FTX.

Since I have NOT had any issues with 50 round (racked) WWB, or other Winchester FMJ or JHP ammo, This made me wonder if the 100 round Value Packs are actually Factory Seconds that didn't make the cut for the 50 round boxes.

I've had a round or 2 of WWB refuse to load in my Shield or my XDS 9. To the naked eye it looked fine

I've had a couple FTE issues with WWB in my shield as well. Makes me wonder why I just purchased the 100 value WWB pack :). Well my G19 shoots them with no problem. The majority of ammo through my shield is with Federal 115 which works flawlessly.

I've tried about 5 or 6 different brands and three bullet shapes. I had an issue with my .45 at first, but that was corrected with a new extractor. Since then I've had no issues at all.

Precision One. 28% failure rate out of 100 rounds of 9 mm. Through two different pistols (different manufacturers).

Never again. Especially for the prices they charge for RELOADS.

When I used to shoot store bought ammo, the only problem I had was with Federal, I had 2 failure to fire episodes, both were caused by the primer being installed backwards . I shoot reloads exclusively now except when I participate in the odd match that requires only factory ammo. (that doesn't happen very often and I make sure not to use Federal) I shoot a lot and except for the 2 bad rounds I've not had any problems.

Buy a Glock when your tired of talking about ammo probs...I love my S&W's but Glocks eat everything...
I find it interesting that you would come on a S&W M&P forum and state that.

In fact, the Glock is the pistol I see the most problems with. Maybe that's because it is quite prevalent, but I've seen them fail more than any other pistol. At the local range and at several training classes I've been to, it's always the people with the Glocks that have multiple malfunctions. Could be ammo, could be shooter, could be the gun. Still, that's what I've seen.

What has surprised me is that the 1911 has had the least malfunctions. Maybe it's because there are less of them out there, but that too is what I've observed.

1911's have been around for over 100 years with some changes but all and all it's the same gun John M. Browning was a very smart man indeed!. Well proven well used and to tell you the truth my bet would be there are more 1911's out there than almost any other gun. I trust mine 100% and never had a malfunction of any kind other then just a few failure to fire's in 35+ years of using them.. I almost picked up a Glock but could not pull the trigger on one after looking at it.. Yep shot a few and they just didn't do it for me.. Gen 3 S&W's and of corse the M&P's I like.. Oh and the brand of ammo I had the most issues with a few guns was PMC so I just don't buy that brand anymore.. George

My full size 9 has problems with steel cased tulammo and brass max. My shield has problems with the same but not as bad.

Only problem I've had was one FTF from a 100 box of WIN. White box. I emailed Winchester and they wrote me a letter. I need to respond. Other than that one . Federal, Win PDX1, Speer GD, and the rest of the Winchester target are good. No failures attributable to the gun.

Tula Brassmax 115 9mm in my full size 9. Very first time I used this ammo the gun did not go into battery when I loaded it. How's that for a bad sign? Had another not go into battery in the middle of a string of fire. The other 98 were fine. First and last Brassmax for me.

My 9 has probably 4000 rounds through it by now and those are the only failures of any kind, ever. Mostly WWB, but also some Tula (icky steel case), Federal, Blazer, Monarch, etc. It's eaten everything else.

Tula Brassmax was the only brand I could find in .380. Didn't try it yet got 8 or 9 boxes of the stuff. I didn't think twice when I seen it was all brass and made in Italy. Hope it works for me. I don't like the fact that it uses Boxer primers. I know some guns have issues with them.. The PMC ammo I had issues with was years ago and it was in .32acp and was run in a Beretta Model 1935 it locked it selfe in the chamber after every shot and had to pry them out. The gun works florless with every other brand of ammo I used in it. My Dad had the gun In WWII and I still shoot it today. George

My 45 has ate every 230 grain bullet I've fed it like a hungry hound. It sort of seemed like it didn't like 185 stuff when the recoil spring was getting a little tired, but not bad enough to stop shooting it. My 9 FS so far like everything. I haven't tried steel case ammo, however.
