That was kind of my point.

Using the same "logic" which I quoted, you could justify ANY stop for ANY illegal item or activity.

Photographic kiddie porn is really bad, FAR worse than drunk driving, since in EVERY case a child has been harmed. Wouldn't that justify random checkpoints on the highways (if not the sidewalks) to check for it? At the very least, wouldn't it justify the government's open access (without a warrant) to everyone's computers, either by physical inspection or remote monitoring?

Then there are "weapons of mass destruction"...

There's ALWAYS an excuse for greater and greater government intrusion into people's lives.

Glad to see that the Mod reopened this thread after closing it earlier today. I didn't understand why that happened. This is a legitimate conversation, though the cop/donut comments didn't add much.

Ironic as it may seem my Son-in-Law doesn't care for donuts. He is a LEO in Kansas and one of the most level-headed people I know. When he first joined our family my brother would bait him all the time about beating suspects etc, John just listened smiled and walked away.

I oc and cc daily and i would have no issue carrying an ar15 around either. I would not and will not give my id to an officer because i am doing so no more then i will give them my id for talking. I find it disturbing that people think there is no issue with surrendering rights when your not breaking laws. Whats wrong with you people? Right im a bad person because i dont want law enforcement harrasing me for obeying the law. I have been questioned by officers on many occasions for oc in a state that only allowed oc until recently...an off duty officer stopped me while walking out of my local grocery store because his wife was inside and seen me with an oc and was un aware of the law....that cop questioned/harrased me for 10 minutes because his wife was unaware of the law, i often find people here to have a sickening view of what is or is not ok....we follow the law provided and are considered attention seekers for doing so. Who is messed up here? I dont carry cameras and post on youtube but i do understand why some do i just wish everyone else would wake up to the bs we are subjected too...how about i question you for ten minutes when you are being a law abiding citizen....sickening.

If your carrying your ar-15 down a country road to the woods, ok that's why it's legal. If your carrying your ar-15 by the mall or the movie theater... I hope the police will stop you and question you. If nothing else, they may be able to establish if you lost your freaking mind! My boy might be in that mall or that theater. If your trying to be an activist there are more intelligent ways to do it. Just my opinion.

I think it's a dual edged blade. Getting attention can have the effect of making LEOs more cognizant of the law, but being a prick about it just creates and/or reinforces the image of gun owners being pricks. I respect that they have the right to carry open or concealed (if allowed), and I respect that they're doing it, but I don't like them being jerks about it.

I open carry 99% of the time, and I've had LEOs approach me a few times. Mostly they were just curious, but they never questioned me OCing or asked for any sort of ID. After a few 'encounters' like that most recognize me as "the open carry guy" and that "he's one of the good guys." I recognize some of the sheriff's deputies enough from work that they'll pull over while on patrol if they spot me to chat for a few minutes. Hell, I even got one of the deputies interested in coming out to my gun club when we start doing open shoots again. Funny how just doing your everyday thing tends to make better impressions and hold their interest more than baiting them into an argument.

I'd suggest trading the AR for two long barreled handguns with pearl grips. Get a really fancy double buscadero rig, and you should feel twice as safe.
If you REALLY don't see how people in public places like a mall or a theater might perceive danger from someone carrying an AR, I don't think anyone could explain it to you.
