How long did it take to get your CCW

In IL they have 90 days if you submit fingerprints with your application, and 120 days if you don't. They are in the first 30 days since applications could be submitted, and so far I have received an acknowledgement that it should be issued (providing everything checks out) in 120 days from the date submitted. Regardless of how soon they have it processed, they won't issue until the full time period has elapsed.

It took nearly 60 days (mid-upper 50s) after I completed my class, paid my fees, and was finger printed. Total time was around 65-70 days after my class.

This was abnormally long for TN at the time. Finger prints required an appointment in my County and the place was closed for Memorial Day and then only open for 3 days the following week. Times were booked up.

It took me longer to park, walk into the courthouse, and get to the sheriff's office than it took to get my license. I already had the form filled out and handed it to the clerk.... 10 minutes later I was on my way.

Fast in PA

Friday night dropped off the local sherif form to the sherif.
Got a call the following Tuesday night to pick it up.
Wed at lunch took to county courthouse, 20 minutes later had my CCW.
Glad I live in Pennsylvania.
New Jersey sucks.

It took me 6 months to the day to get mine in Monroe County New York State 10 years ago. It is quite a process here. One has to sign release form to make sure you haven't been a mental patient, you need 4 character references to be sure you are an outstanding citizen and not a threat to others or yourself. The application has to be notarized. They (the local sheriffs dept.) even called my wife asking if she was aware of my application and if it was alright with her. This along with the standard fingerprint/photo and $135. Finally, a county judge has to sign off on it as the last step. My wife applied for her's last year and it only took 5 months to get her's and the sheriff never called me to ask my permission. I guess husbands are more of a threat than wives when it comes to NYS, but nothing is logical when it comes to guns in this state.

Exactly

In St. Louis County they have 45 days to approve or deny the CCW application. Mine took about three weeks.

I took the class and got a certificate, took it the next day to the sheriff. They had 45 days like Ransom said. I got approved in one week to the hour. Got the paper that day, took it to the DMV and got the non-driver laminate with the CCW endorsement on it.............so, about 8 or 9 days altogether
Peace,
Gordon:)

Another PA person...i got mine while on lunch break for jury selection...i was already at the courthouse where the sheriff's office is located.

I wasn't on the standard application that you can print off online. It was a seperate form attached to the application with the name of I believe 5 or 6 hospitals next to it that I had to initial the boxes next to the names. I just assumed it was just another page of what is normally filled out. She said they request any admission or records of treatment for mental health problems from them. Maybe something new?

I applied for my 3rd renewal for my NC CCW and I did not see a form like that. Sounds like something your sheriff is doing.

It was my first application, not a renewal. I have been reading online that the Sheriff in Mecklenburg as has been issuing fewer permits per year, and dragging it out longer and longer. See jdcam's post above. It looks like it took him 8 months if I read it correctly.

land of Lincoln...we are still queued up n waiting.....I will probably be able to get a ccw sometime after my 9 year old grand daughter gets married....

The process in FL breaks down like this. You take a 2 hr safety class at any LGS or non-gov't location offering them. Then make an appointment at one of 6 state certification centers. During the appointment, you fill out a form, submit fingerprints and have your photo taken. After a brief background check, they issue a temporary permit and you're done in about 30 minutes not counting any wait time due to volume of applicants. Permanent license arrives via mail approx 10 days later.

My initial in CA took about 2 months for the whole process. I just renewed it this morning and it took about 10 minutes.

My FL license took about 3 months.

Nevada - Washoe County.

Took a 8hr class at a big-box sporting goods store in Sparks, gave me all the paperwork at conclusion, spent 20 minutes at the Sheriff's office turning it in and with fingerprinting.

92 days later, there you go.

Rastoff, aren't you in LA county? I grew up in LA where the only people who could carry where gang members.

We were told permits were only for celeb's and judges. Today's 9th circuit decision kind of pokes a hole in that practice; well maybe.

Nope, Kern. It's the last refuge for reasonable people in CA.

Yes, it used to be like that. However, in a move of unfathomable common sense, a new law was recently passed. Now, any issuing agency must apply the same standard to anyone regardless of standing. This means that if the Sheriff or Police Chief issues a CCW to a judge or celebrity, they have to issue them to anyone else who has a clean record. Borderline "shall issue" law.

While this is good, it has had the opposite effect; now no one can get a CCW in LA, not even judges or celebrities.
