CWP in bars/restaurants

You can find 50 State Legislatures that say it's OK to have some alcohol in your system and drive. In the end, their opinions are the ones that matter.

Fair enough. I'll modify my original statement to fit that argument. See how you feel about it now...

"Children, it's ok to drink and drive, as long as you don't drink too much, because the government tells us it's ok"

I see problems with relying on "because the gov says it's ok" to base my personal decisions on.

I had a long response, but by the time it was done my fingers hurt and I drifted the thread far enough South you could see Argentina.

I'll give you the short version, we both know officers who try to enforce the law they way they think it should be, not the way it is. That's where all of the horror stories everyone reads about come from. My knee jerks from that...maybe at you, especially at Faulkner's "high and mighty" people who expect their rights. You are probably getting grief you don't deserve from me due to that.

Officers don't know better than the law, don't just "know" who's guilty and our opinions should never affect the way we do our job. You may even agree with all that. You may be a guy who's opinion does not influence the job at all, I don't know you.

So forgive me my soapbox, to quote a decent movie, "here endeth the lesson."

What do I know? At the end of the day, I tried to fairly enforce the law, not let my biases affect the job and go home every night, anything else was to wearing and political for me, guess that's why I'm not a Chief or Sheriff somewhere.

One thing I forgot:

The State of NC makes 12-15K off of every drunk driving conviction, by the time you add in court fees, insurance surcharges, classes, "assessments" etc. They have no desire for one offense and you are done laws. That mentality is the reason drunk drivers are so persistent and kill so many innocent people. That the real reason it will never change here, other places are similar, I suspect.

I hope you are wrong about that. To tolerate drunk driving for the profit of the state would be evil. I'm not saying you are wrong; I just hope so. I guess I've always assumed that the penalties are not more severe in order to show mercy to the offender and his dependent family members.

In the great state of IOWA it is stated right on your license...
IF you are drinking your license is suspended . . . . they don't care where you might be!!!

So, if you are carrying........DON'T DRINK.............

Handgun license or driver's license?

In Oklahoma you can open or concealed carry into a restaurant that serves alcoholic beverages if it is not posted otherwise. You cannot legally carry while under the influence of alcohol or any legal or illegal drug, prescription or not. For the purposes of driving, you are impaired with a blood/alcohol content at 0.05% and under the influence at 0.08%.

I don't go to restaurants or any other business where I can't carry. The only restaurant I've seen locally with restrictions is "Los Cabos" where the sign reads: "No Open Carry."

Before Texas allowed concealed carry, I used to drink in "Bar El Gallo" in Corpus Christi. They searched everybody that came in for weapons.

If you didn't have one, they'd lend you one. Only way to keep everybody from killing one another....

Now, THAT'S funny! :D

I can honestly say that after reading and re-reading your post, I haven't the slightest idea what it is you're trying to say. Sorry if I don't get it.

My angle -

Regardless of what the statutes say -

I don't recommend drinking and driving to anyone, to any degree.

I don't recommend drinking and carrying to anyone, to any degree.

Other's opinions may differ.

Fair enough. No need for us to beat it to death worse than it is....and it's pretty well decayed at this point.

Have a good evening.
