Its official, three boxes down the pipe I love shooting the little revolver!!! Some friends told me I would be lucky to hit the target at 10 yards. So this is the picture I sent them showing what the 3rd box of ammo looked like.:D

Glad you like your 642!!! I love mine and it doesn't kick like a mule or try to jump out of my hand like a lot of reviews say it will

I love mine as well. It is a close quarters weapon, not a 50 yard target pistol. I often carry mine in my front pants pocket without a holster.

Nice shooting, sir! If we ever get to pick teams, I want you on my side. ;)

Thanks. With a little more practice I hope to either shot at smaller targets or move them further away. I am struggling with the sight picture and shooting high.

Glad your 642 is working. They are tough to shoot but it seems you are going good. Practice, practice, practice. In a previous post you stated you had trouble locking the cylinder in the frame. What was causing the problem and how did you fix it?

Regarding accuracy with a .38 Snubby...

In the late Seventies and early Eighties I was heavy into IPSC (when it was considered a "martial art"). I had a discussion with a friend who shot lots of trap and was just so-so with a pistol. He made a statement that went something like this: "I heard you couldn't hit a barn from the inside with a .45 ACP." That got my dander up and I made a kind of rash statement, "I'll not only hit a man size silhouette at 100 yards ON DEMAND with my 1911 (iron sights) but I'll shoot any handgun you bring with you to my home range and hit the silhouette at least half the time without preliminary shots.

Well, he did come down to my home range (he lived in a town about 12 miles away). He brought several handguns and one of which was a Model 60! I could see sights in those days but I had NO idea where that snubby would shoot at 100 yards (we had a steel IPSC silhouette at 100 yards). Well, it was "put up or shut up". I went prone with the 1911 and hit the target eight straight times. Now, that was pretty easy because I had shot at that steel silhouette a number of times and knew where to hold.

I had one advantage - it was dry and hopefully I could see where the shots hit the berm and could adjust the hold. I went prone, shot the first shot, adjusted aim, then shot the second one and just missed. The next three were on target. I "used" all of the silhouette but they were all solid hits. His eyes nearly bugged out. It sure made a believer out of him LOL.

It will truly surprise you if you ever get a chance to put a snubby on a Ransom Rest. They are no NRA Bullseye gun, but they WILL shoot quite well and not just at handshaking distance. The problem is all with the shooter - the light weight and short sight radius make it a chore to get good hits at a distance. It takes a fair bit of practice. It IS fun!!

I am envious of your home range, sir.

Breaking dirt clods on the berm at the Pima Pistol Club outdoor range is fun, but your setup sounds terrific!

It didn't take too much practice to become fairly accurate at short distances. But, for me, good quality ammo is also an important part of the equation.

They are forgetting the 3-3-3 rule......
3 shots in 3 seconds at 3 feet.

In all honesty that rule is a complete myth and fable that has been passed around until it is taken as gospel. No LE agency, including the FBI, ever said it. Each gunfight is very different and if you want to follow a statistic, you will become a statistic. Bill

Not sure if I fixed it but after it happened at the range for the second time I was able to get it too happen with no ammo in the gun. With a light push on the extractor rod it would snap into place and functioned. Before I left the range I cleaned and lubed it and I cant replicate the issue. I have opened and closed it a bunch of times, closing the cylinder every way imaginable and can not make it happen. So maybe it needed a drop of oil is all.
