Regarding accuracy with a .38 Snubby...
In the late Seventies and early Eighties I was heavy into IPSC (when it was considered a "martial art"). I had a discussion with a friend who shot lots of trap and was just so-so with a pistol. He made a statement that went something like this: "I heard you couldn't hit a barn from the inside with a .45 ACP." That got my dander up and I made a kind of rash statement, "I'll not only hit a man size silhouette at 100 yards ON DEMAND with my 1911 (iron sights) but I'll shoot any handgun you bring with you to my home range and hit the silhouette at least half the time without preliminary shots.
Well, he did come down to my home range (he lived in a town about 12 miles away). He brought several handguns and one of which was a Model 60! I could see sights in those days but I had NO idea where that snubby would shoot at 100 yards (we had a steel IPSC silhouette at 100 yards). Well, it was "put up or shut up". I went prone with the 1911 and hit the target eight straight times. Now, that was pretty easy because I had shot at that steel silhouette a number of times and knew where to hold.
I had one advantage - it was dry and hopefully I could see where the shots hit the berm and could adjust the hold. I went prone, shot the first shot, adjusted aim, then shot the second one and just missed. The next three were on target. I "used" all of the silhouette but they were all solid hits. His eyes nearly bugged out. It sure made a believer out of him LOL.
It will truly surprise you if you ever get a chance to put a snubby on a Ransom Rest. They are no NRA Bullseye gun, but they WILL shoot quite well and not just at handshaking distance. The problem is all with the shooter - the light weight and short sight radius make it a chore to get good hits at a distance. It takes a fair bit of practice. It IS fun!!
