Help deciding between 2 .380's

The LCP is the easiest and lightest to pocket carry very dependable but don't overlook the new Glock 42 made in the USA.

I know it isn't one of your choices, but I also went with the taurus. Has ran flawlessly with any ammo used. Very accurate and nice trigger. I have found it so easy to carry, that I carry more than I used to before which is a good thing.

Keeping an eye on this thread as well. My next purchase will be in this group as well. Want to stick with USA, and there seems to me quite a few good options.

The Department tested all three.
Approved the Ruger and the S&W.
The S&W out sells the Ruger 3 to 1.

We have had no problems with either.
S&W made us our own version, if you can find it, buy it. No external safety.

I carry it in a pocket holster.
Been carrying it for 2 years.

No complaints.
I think that's what you asked, there's your "informed" answer. :D

When will the bg.380 with no laser be available?

I would be very interested in it as i love s&w products and like how the grip fits my hand but the laser on the current one makes it a tad large for my taste

I'd second consideration of a belly band. Try it with your 642. It may solve the problem. Another option are the T-shirt holsters some outfits offer...such as Kramer. Take a look at one on the Kramer website.

If you really want a new pistol, though, and want a .380, I can recommend the Glock 42. It's slim, light, compact, accurate and easy (even fun) to shoot. It's slightly lighter, even loaded, then your 642, and flatter. It may be too large for pocket carry, but would work well in an inside the waistband holster...or ankle holster...or belly band/T shirt holster.

Now, though I like both the 642 and 42, I'd rather reach for a 9mm Glock 26 or .40 Glock 27 if my life depended on it. That may be too big for your specialized circumstances, but perhaps give it some thought if the belly band/T shirt holster solution appeals. Those are more capable weapons, frankly, if you ever actually need the gun to protect yourself with.

I read somewhere that Elvis performed with a weapon on him...a small auto, if I recall correctly...so you are in good company!

Break a leg...and stay safe.

I heard from our mutual acquaintance that LAPD is looking at the Glock 42 and considering approving it for officers to carry...have you heard that too? Also, what is the Department load for the .380?

I have smallish hands and have never felt comfortable with double stacks, i carried a glock 23 for awhile but could never get comfortable with the grip

In August of 2012, we changed the 380 load from the Hornady Critical to the Speer Lawman, .380 ACP, 95 grain, FMJ, PN# 53608.
Some feeding issues across the platforms. Never experienced it myself.

All I can say is the G42 is being looked at... PM for further.

Thanks, Mike. Given the .380's penetration limitations, I can see the appeal of FMJ ammo. The performance of the Remington Golden Saber 102 grain JHP in the Bureau's tests, for instance, was dismal, in terms of penetration. A FMJ round performed much better.

My favorite guns in Order of reference.. S&W/Ruger/KelTec....I own two KelTec P3AT both very reliable, both shoot well for a mouse pocket gun.

My Ruger is a .357 SP101.

My Smits are Model 19/36/638/642/and a grand old 15.

I have carried all the above except the 15. (the 19 is a four inch ) and although I have carried it concealed its not my favorite.

Update i decided on the bg.380 will be picking it up when i get off of work today

With laser, i dont think the ones w/o are shipping yet. If it goes without any hiccups it will be great for carrying this summer

I was only able to put 2 mags through it today, it's raining :-( but it had zero hiccups 7 rounds of cci blazer fmj and 7 rounds of corbon dpx. Nice shooting little gun, a long trigger pull, not sure why s&w put the thumb saftey on it with a long double action trigger pull.
