How long did it take to get your CCW

Really? In the whole state of New York you can't even own a handgun unless you have a CCWP? Or is that just New York City?

The whole state.

It's been around since the early 1900s its real name is the Sullivan law. The craziest part is you can get a state wide permit issued by your county (except for NYCity) but each county can make their own issuing rules as long as they stay with certain parameters.

Venango County, PA. with filling out the application, the clerk making the call, having my pic taken and the license laminated, maybe 15 minutes, if even that.

I don't think you can beat PA for CCW issuance, it's literally minutes.
Even non-resident licenses can be obtained in minutes if you go to the right county. I got mine from Centre County.

The only problem I see is that from what I'm reading on their site you have to have a CCW from your own state to get the non-resident. It almost seems like a waste of time and money. But I guess if it covered states your home state didn't then I could see doing it. I looked at Florida non-resident but it covered less then my home state.

Provided that your fingerprints is on file, there should be no reason why it shouldn't take less then 20 mins or someone to get there permit to carry a firearm.

In a more perfect world, there should be no reason for anyone to "get" a permit to carry a gun.

in Washington state it takes about 30 days as of right now...I am sure some legislator is working on screwing that up as I type...I need to go shoot...I'm grumpy this morning...:(
I wouldn't include all of Washington State in the 30 days statement. Last year during the big CPL rush wife and son applied at SO and picked up permit the next day, ~24hr turn around.

It all depends on where you live.

We live in Texas. Mailed our apps on January 19, 2014. Received our CHLs on March 6. Just under seven weeks.

Just a few weeks ago they were averaging around nine to ten weeks. I understand that a whole bunch of temps were hired to help clear the backlog of applications. I was happy to get ours much earlier than expected.

Took my class this past saturday, went to the dmv here in Tn. Can not get finger printed until this coming friday. Then they have 90 days( i've been told should only take 3 to 4 weeks).

I'm in Texas. Mailed paperwork in mid Dec 2013, recieved my license about 60 days later.

6 months in NYS,,,that was in 1967.

No renewals, no fees, no classes since. No classes back then either.

But the NY SAFE Act has a provision to put everyones NYS Pistol Permit into some sort of 4 or 5yr continuous renewal process. A few Counties already do a required renewal every few years as a normal process but the State never did.

Haven't heard much more about it. One of these days a new and confusing form will show up.

I was just wondering how long it took to get your CCW in the State and County you live in? I live in North Carolina in Mecklenburg County and when I applied they told me 5 to 6 months.

I live in North Carolina, Pender county and it took about 5 weeks. Different county's have different steps the Sherriff must take to issue a CCW I think Pender is probably the most gun friendly county in the state.

North Dakota permit applications have literally quadrupled in the last few years, and when I applied it was still the old 90 day process. Put it in end of February 2013, received it early January 2014. I don't blame them, and my experience is typical, the amount of people applying after all this gun control hoopla and the rise of crime here with the oil boom has created some serious shock to the system.

It is understandable, but very frustrating to me any many others who waited and wrote letters for months on end. In the end I do sympathize with an office of three people who went from 3,000 applications a year to around 12,000.

Illinois, Cook County - but our CCLs are done at the state level (state police), not the county level - applied 1/2 online (early beta testing group, paper apps not available until at least July) with prints (not mandatory here). Received 3/5. IL has 90 days with prints, 120 without.

I mailed my UT permit 1/21, check was cashed 2/9, received this week.

Since I started this thread I thought I would give an update. It took 83 days for Mecklenberg County, NC to issue my CCW permit. I was down picking up a purchase permit today and I figured I would ask the status of my CCW application. The young lady went into the back and came out with my folder and there it was inside. It was issued on 3-23-2014. I only wonder how long it would have taken them to notify me hadn't I been there and asked?

In Va. it's about 14 days in the smaller rural county's, helps when the sheriff, clerk of court and the judge know you are an honest citizen.

Yes, I'm drifting this thread, but this...
I was down picking up a purchase permit...
...just makes my skin crawl. Having to ask the government for permission to buy a gun is just as bad as having an "approved handgun list" or waiting period. Maybe worse.
