How I miss my 586.......

Agreed. The things that led up to the UK handgun ban reminds me of things going on here now. If it can happen there it may happen here. Now more than ever we must be sure to protect our 2A liberties.

Thank God we have the US Constitution, Second Amendment, and the National Rifle Association protecting our right to keep and bear arms...Sadly you Brit guys had/have none of these

Hi Saxguy, good luck to find a 586, I'm a big fan of these guns too!
Could you enlighten us the UK legislation about firearms? (I know it's quite harsh) I would be very curious about it...

:D

Yep, you're lucky to have them. Wish we had had something along those lines, and with the same clout!

Well, ive been left a few years now so i'm not too sure. I think that maybe anything resembling a gun is considered “bad”. If you hold a bar of soap in a “gun like” manner, you are likely to attract the attention of the armed police, whose job it is to shoot first and ascertain the truth second. Come to that, you can even be tazed if you are blind and carrying a white stick (Policeman must apologise to blind man he shot with Taser | UK news | theguardian.com) as the police might think you are a Ninja Assassin in disguise. Seriously, look at the link.

I think also, walking sticks are soon to be banned, as they could possibly be mistaken for rifle barrels, also pointy sticks are banned, and if they have a particularly sharp end, they then fall into section 5 category weapons, as do machine pistols and tanks, also pepper spray and Tazers… unless you are a Cop that is (again, see above link).

The word “gun” is also to be outlawed, as it contains reference to a “banned” item. Anyone using the word gun, will be strip searched (in case they are maybe concealing a gun), paraded naked around the cop shop and used for Tazer practice (if there are no blind Ninjas around to practice on).

Pea Shooters are also banned, as they are synonymous with “unruly children” and also upset the feminists’ as it is a toy that through the ages has always been depicted as being a “boys toy”. They say that in this day and age, unless a toy (or weapon in this case) can be shown to be unquestionably unisex, there is no place for it in our society. One of their more outspoken representatives, a Ms Ellena Trufflefart was overheard to say, anyone selling these sorts of dangerous weapons to young boys should be taken out into the street and shot. Which sort of smacks of hypocrisy when you think about it!

… other than that, I think you're good to go.

That's much worse that I was thinking!!
I own a Lee-Enfied n° 4 MK II too (great rifle) and I remember two englishmen coming to visit me and how much they were surprised to see a rifle from their own history for real.
That's really unfair...is that Tellytubbyland?

;)

At least NZ has good surf ....
What about owning SLR's and other modern semi automatic rifle designs ?

I had assumed former commonwealth countries were all fervently anti gun ?

Funny you should post that pic, I have one of those in my safe. Also have an AR15 (Remington), Mini 14, 30rnd mags etc…. No problem. There are different categories of firearms, some which seem to overlap and make no sense (since recently), but most anything is obtainable if you go through the vetting process, use a gun club regularly (to be able to keep your pistol license), and so on. Unlike the UK, here we have thousands of miles of “public” land that you can go shooting on. Just download a FREE hunting license, and away you go. Within twenty minutes of me I can be either in a forest, or on the beach (the beach is less than ten minutes). About an hours drive will take you into mountainous country. There are Tahr, Chamois, Deer….. and it is open season all year round, as these are all considered pests!!!

My biggest regret moving here is that I didn’t do it YEARS ago! I’m in my fifties now, and I feel ive missed the best years. Oh well, when I get a 586 back in my hands, I will be happy as a pig in muck.

One final thing, and I’m not trying to make anyone jealous here… wait for it……………. It is totally LEGAL in NZ to distil your own alcohol. Stills are readily available, and kits are sold in the shops. No feds on your back, no trouble at all. In fact one of these days, I am going to set one up in our old woodshed. Ive already run 3ph power, water and a telephone line in. Just got to find a place for the wood now, and move the rats out! LOL

Hows that sound?:D

Sorry to bump this post up again, but talk about bad luck, well ...I am at my wits end, as I have had two handguns shipped priority mail, and the last thing I know they had been “processed through the sort facility in LA” TWELVE DAYS AGO.

I have spent about an hour and a half trying to get to talk to someone at USPS only to eventually be told that the sender has to file a claim so they can take a look to see what has happened. The sender meanwhile is not available, and might not be for a couple of week…………. I’m going MAD here trying to think of what to do. I am already out over $2000 and many weeks of waiting for the deal to be done (Im overseas)………………

I seriously cannot comprehend that two handguns have just disappeared from the radar, and that USPS wont even do a search for me…. *** seriously!!!!!

I have an original 586 no dash, no modification, never fired still in the wax paper. Not sure if you're still looking...

Slowshooter, I am gobsmacked. I would have been VERY interested if I hadn’t have already bought one.
I got one from Gunbroker.. it is 95% like new I would say, so I am not disappointed. I wish the box had looked as good as the gun mind, it seems its been through the wars somewhat. It took me ages (months) to get it sent over here to New Zealand, and the cost was considerable, with shipping, export fees, duty etc.

I had to submit a “special” reason to the authorities here for that particular make and model, and show that I have been searching for one locally for ages…. Not easy to do. There would be no way I could import another one, even if I had the cash. Shame, as I would have done.. I LOVE this model!

Thank you for the offer my friend.

Does that mean you received the 586?

YES..... OMG, I should have updated the post (after my panic before). :o

It took AGES, and just seemed to vanish from the radar.

Packages from the US normally take 2 to 3 days at the most to get from the US to NZ (depends if they go through Hawaii)... this one took two weeks. It must have been held in a customs bin or something... Anyway, I have it now.

It appears in nearly mint condition, even the wooden grips. Havent fired it yet. The only thing i could find wrong (apart from the ragged box) is a slight pitting or inclusion in one spot in the barrel (I bore scoped it). You cannot see this just by looking down the barrel, only through the scope, so im guessing it might be nothing to worry about.
