Summer in the north has.....

Finally arrived. After one of the most grueling winters Ive lived through Im finally sitting on my front porch eating lunch and there's even a hummingbird at my lillys as I type this and a couple chickadees in my bird feeder.

Although its only 68 today its comfortable, a perfect day here on the coast of Maine.

Anyone else had a harsh winter? Is the weather finally coming around where you are?

Amen. This past winter brought all-time records for snow and cold, and seemed to last forever. Now we're hitting the 70's and leaves and grass are green again, trilliums and fruit trees are blooming, and lilacs are just coming on, and the full agenda of summer birds have returned. The combination of record snowfall and a wet spring has the lakes and rivers at full capacity and has also generated one of the most memorable mosquito crops in history! Your yard looks a lot like mine.

Yeah Ive noticed on the warmer night's the mosquitos are rediculous!! My yard is fairly plain and simple....low maintence

Upstate NY here. We had a rather interesting/nasty winter. It seem like it lasted forever.

The weather guesser was talking about the weather and what it does for certain insect species. Up here the mosquitoes are getting very prolific. We also have the well known(World Famous) Adirondack Black Fly and they are starting to get rather nasty, they do not come at you as a single, but rather in very large groups!

Mosquitoes will last all of good weather, but the Black Fly has a short cycle, it's normally about a month but during that month they will keep you inside much more than you want to be!.

I totally agree with your statement, nice weather comes then the bugs force us in! We Cant win!!

Today is a spectacularly perfect late spring day in Minnesota: high in the '70s, crystal clear air, low humidity, the trees and grass are the rich, lush green they get only with plenty of moisture, and the skeeters are not an issue, yet.

I say late spring because it doesn't really feel like summer until it gets into the '80s and stays there for a while. But I'll take it just the way it is, thank you.

Actually, I don't mind winter...and our winters can be brutal...minus 20 sometimes.

Today, it's 80 degrees out here at my place and I've been workin' like a rented mule putting shingles on the new hen house. Just came into the house to rehydrate. I hate working in the heat. My wife, on the other hand, loves the heat. She's outside right now puttering in the garden.

As I've tried to explain to her, when it's cold, you can always put on an extra sweater or another jacket. When it's hot, there's a limit to what you can take off and not be arrested by our local sheriff.

Also not a fan of the heat, and usually enjoy winter, but this last one tested the limits a bit. September and October are my favorites and usually help to recharge the batteries somewhat.

We had a brutal winter too here in Michigan. We're getting 70s and 80s now and I won't dare complain when it gets hot and muggy. Wife has already informed me there will be no central air on this year as she likes it hot.
Once she too retires we'll likely take up wintering in warmer places. Maybe in an RV and her working as a traveling RN.

Up until two day's ago it was still winter, they said it would hit 72 today, the wind is now blowing out of the East and the temp is starting to drop.
