I have just PMed Lee and asked him to remove the NRA icon from my posts. It's a long sad story and I'll spare y'all the gory details but I explained it to Lee in some detail. I knew some of y'all would notice that I no longer had the NRA icon over my posts and wonder what was going on.

In a nut shell, they claim I am over due to renew my membership. But my membership card has an expiration date of Jan, 2017. I got conformation on that date from a lady I spoke with at their main number. They have been pushy, rude, unresponsive to my emails, hand written letters and calls.

Today I got a "final notice" to pay up or my membership would be "suspended". Things are very tight right now and I do not have any extra money and I refuse to send them another dime until Jan, 2017.

I still believe in the NRA and encourage everyone to join and/or continue their membership. I don't want to lose my membership But I just got into this mess and I don't know how it happened and evidently there is nothing to be done about it so.....stick a fork in me brothers, I'm done.

Sorry its been a sad set of experiences with them. Do you think STAN Laurel (yes-trying to give you a bit of humor :D ) had anything to do with this? :D

PS, part of the reason why I dont have internet at home--is because ATT did something similar to this with me--so I canned their "service" back in early March.

Nice catch Ringo. :) I wondered if any one would snap to my Laurel and Hardy reference. If I'd had on a tie I'd have given it a little twiddle and said, "Why don't you do something to help me?" :D

Outside of the Stooges, those two are my favorites. :Di think ill see if i can find: Sons of the Desert, to watch. :D

If you'll notice, I don't have an NRA icon myself. I paid my dues, but I am disgusted with the incessant requests for more money. While I do support the work they do, and I am certainly an advocate of our 2A freedom, I think they are seriously in need of an overhaul in the way they treat their own membership. Some, even many, may not agree, and I do understand that they need money to operate, but the way they go about it with current members is offensive to me.

As for removing the icon, can't you do that in your user CP? I did.

Everybody is playing strong arm......

I was just discussing with my wife how strong arm has become the way to do business. Of all places, we had a bad experience with the YMCA. We signed up for a short term member ship and when we tried to cancel, they wouldn't and kept sending us bills. Seems also that once anybody gets your money it defaults straight to, "We've got your money and we aren't giving it back. If you want it back you're going to have to fight us. That is after you find us."

I also noticed that like many organizations, the NRA starts sending renewal notices months after you've signed up. So far I've just ignored them but if I have an experience like yours I'd quit, too.

One of my favorite L&H movies is "Out to Sea". The boys are out on a small sail boat with a killer and he told them to cook him some dinner. They didn't have any food and simulated an old string mop for spaghetti.

I had a nearly complete collection of all their stuff including an interview with Stan's daughter giving a lot of biographical details about the boys, their lives and their life long friendship. By now I forget which was which but one fact I found interesting was that one of them loved golf and the other loved deep sea fishing. So they would go play golf one time and go fishing another. I'd be willin' to bet that watching them do either one together would be a scream.

Thank you I'll give that a try. I didn't put it up there so it never occurred to me that I could remove it.

If you go to User CP, then Edit Your Details, there is a section where you can select your level of NRA membership.

Got it. That was easy. I don't remember putting it up but I suppose, looking at how you do it, I did. Oh well. I've slept since then.... Thanks again.

Sorry to hear that Walkin Jack, I know the frustration.... I signed up many years ago for the life membership on the payment plan ($25 a quarter for 10 years)... lo and behold between my 7th and 8th year in (and after the 4th PCS) the record got lost.... I refused to pay more than I owed, and we parted company for a long while. When I did finally join (again) I did so for up front money, and have had no complaints (or fundraising) since. I sure hope someone there gets your situation fixed and apologizes to you.... thats no way to operate.....

I had a similar thing happen when I signed up one of the kids for their life membership. No one at NRA could figure it out, denied everything, had no record of what my several checks were used for, etc., etc., and I was a little steamed with them for some time. As the kids got closer to HS graduation, I finally decided to "forgive and forget" and have since paid for life memberships for both of them. Though I may not care for all of their methods, NRA does lots of good for us all and comparatively little harm, I guess. It's hard to justify turning your back on them, permanently. :(

I have been an NRA member for many years and, in general, support what they do. Like many here; I got disgusted with the incessent mailings asking for more money. I just put them in the circular file. I wonder just how much money they would SAVE in postage if they went to an annual cash raisng period say for around 2 weeks? I don't think anyone would have a problem with this.

I keep getting a bill for $5.oo (yes $5) for my NO COSY $2500.00 ADD policy. Well if it is no cost why do they want $5?? I must have signed something in all the pile of promotions.

They have sent probably $10 in bills and mailings with final notice etc.

All members get the $5,000 ADD for free so the extra $2500 is not a big deal to me.

"Annual members receive $5,000 of Accidental Death and Dismemberment coverage at NO COST to you. The plan covers accidents at, or to and from, an NRA event; and accidents that occur during the use of firearms or hunting equipment while hunting. Insurance must be activated at time of renewal. (Does not include Junior membership.)"

Sorry about this with the NRA, Jack.

I have the same series of movies but they're on VHS and now I have to update to disc.

I am an Endowment member and do believe in what they do, but not in how they often treat the membership. Ths last straw was a couple years ago when I had received a solicitation for money, buy, etc EVERY DAY for ran entire week. Then they sent me some large books (i didn't want) to start a collection of books (I didn't want). I made a phone call di rect to subscriber services and advised them I wanted NO MORE mail sent to my address at all. And it actually happened, I have not received a single piece of correspondence ( other than my instructor dues renewal) since. I was on multiple mailing lists, member, instructor, Friends of NRA, etc. so I got just about everything. It can be done, they will leave you alone.
