Neighbors heroin addicted daughter and her boy friend were found with the electronics but no Ruger. They have skipped two trial dates, are still free, police still hold my electronics and say they haven't forgotten me. What hurts the most is not locking my gun up. Eats at me every day. If I was a dictator every time a thief was found I would have every bit of his worldly possessions put in the town square and have him watch in stocks as they were torched. That would be after the usual court findings and penalty's, not a substitution for the verdicts.

Its always the one time you let your guard down. I always lock my doors except the one night I forgot and found everything moved around. The only thing they took was an old fannypack stuffed under the drivers seat for a get home bag. It had things like a little AA powered radio, batteries, quarters, map and compass, etc. Nothing of real value, just annoying. What they didn't see is that under the back seat were two toll rolls but you have to take out the booster sears for the kids and lift the back seat to get them out.

I have a vehicle lock-out kit in my truck (for good purposes only). I've helped several people get back into their cars with it.
I haven't found a car yet that I couldn't get into with it.

Easiest car I ever opened? Late model Ford Mustang. Took me literally seconds to open the car. The owner was glad to be back into his car, but he looked a little bummed out that his car was so easy to get into.

Theft from vehicle is a common crime in Eastern Pennsylvania. Its usually juveniles just walking around trying cars or druggies. Don't leave anything of value exposed. Electrics are a frequent target. If you keep a handgun in your vehicle buy a small safe that fits under your seat. Most criminals don't have the tools with them to open a small safe. Get the ones with numbers, rather than a key, and us a cable to attach it to the bracket under the seat.. They are easier for you the owner to open. If you purchase a new vehicle get a factory installed alarm. Years ago I investigated a case where a property owner in a nice section of town left his car unlocked. During the night somebody got into his unlocked car and took his lap top computer. He was a small business owner and the information on that computer was never recovered. It was not backed up either.That was a costly mistake!

MIL in the wholesome country...

My MIL moved to the country to get away from it all. House about an eighth of the mile off the road and 1/4 mile between houses. Woman next door entertained many 'boyfriends' and got them to steal for her. Robbed my MIL blind for years. Garage, tack shed, machinery. They got my chainsaw. They knew she worked 30 miles away. One time my MIL came home unexpectedly and found the woman and guy in an A/C repair truck in her driveway next to her house. She wasn't having any A/C work done.

If you catch them-cut their hands off and tattoo "Thief" across their foreheads. once word gets around you shouldn't have any more problems.

I hear ya. We too think it was kids/teenagers, but we don't wanna accuse anyone. We do have troubled kids in this neighborhood. There was also a party on the lane the same night our vehicle was broken into. The host's daughter was accused of a prior crime but never made it to trial (lack of evidence). So it's quite possible it was someone of our neighbors kids, but I'm not pointing my finger, but we did tell the deputy though. And I made our kids put flyers in each mailbox on the lane. Perhaps we haven't been the only victim that night. And maybe one of the parents sees an orange iPod somewhere. Or the kids see/hear anything on the school bus... just a little chance, but I took it.

One good thing; we never leave firearms in the vehicle overnight.

That's a cheap price for round bales, if they are what I am thinking of. A round bale here is 800 pounds and worth about $100-125 each!

In my case being violated was much worse than what was taken.

The UPS guys in The Bronx got a nice Winchester 1910 in .401WSL from me.

UPS, did somehting similar to me about 5 years ago--only somehting not near as good as yours. I was sweating out the arrival of a1913 Swedish mauser bayonet--mint-unissued but stamped to some Swedish unit.Anyway, i had bought that bayo from c collector in Calif--for my mint 1913 Swedish Mauser. Oh, the PACKAGE arrived--the contents were NOT in it. All it had on it were black car tire markes--a nise fist sized hole in the side--no contents.

Our neighborhood put up 'no soliciting' signs, the sales droids don't pay attention to them.

Theft of haybales makes sense. There has been a lot of bad weather the last few years. Neighbors to my parents don't farm anymore but since there was a shortage they approached my father and asked him to bale and split the hay with them they they sold theirs. Anything in demand people will steal.

Years ago my parents had a small cabin on top of the farm. Someone was able to get a window open and stole a lighter, took an ax and nailed the barn door shut and then threw the ax on the barn roof. This was in WV where they would have had to hike miles up and down hills just to get there.

I've had vehicles broken into and stuff stolen. One time they went down the street busting drivers windows and grabbing what they could. later we found out a neighbor was on the phone with the police watching them but they were gone by the time the police finally came. My back shed was broken open and a lawn mower and bicycles stolen. Another time I was working on my truck and it was getting late so I tossed my tools in the back of the truck and noticed when I got to work the next day I noticed they had pried the back window of the cap open and took my tools. I then found out that your not in good hands with Allstate as their replacement policy gave me pennies on the dollar as replacement cost.

I own the farm land now and worry about keeping things secure once my parents are gone.

Oh wow. I'm sorry to hear this. Looks like you live in a bad "neighborhood" or something. Or is it that the kids are just being bored... seems like as soon as they don't have their cell phones anymore they don't know what to do...

We did live in a bad neighborhood, moved out a few years ago and just had the one incident so far from when I left the door unlocked. Live in Ohio and the farm is in WV.
