Bacon Advice

Shouldn't be hard to find on this forum! I have an electric griddle with a heat control knob calibrated in degrees farenheit. What's the proper temperature for frying bacon? I don't want it rare or cooked to a cinder.

Momma taught me well...

Start with a low temp and after all the added water is gone and the fat turns translucent, increase the heat. You can tell by the "stiffness" and when it starts to brown. it is done.

Still, I prefer microwaved. The thick sliced without the added water, will cook at about 2-2 1/2 minute per slice. Six sliced in about 7-8 minutes. The power of the Microwave changes the times. Mine is 1000 watts, I think

I don't think that would work for me; I cook two packs of the thick sliced at a time.
 
I don't have anything to say/add about the actual temp numbers, but I love eggs and potatoes fried in bacon grease and slightly undercooked thick bacon!
 
I like to cook it in the oven use a wire rack on a cookie sheet/ sheet cake pan bake in a preheated oven at 300 degrees for about 12 minutes. Perfect bacon.

Remember to line your cookie sheet with aluminum foil. Makes cleanup WAY easier. When you are do you just drop in two or three paper towels to absorb grease, wad them up inside the foil and toss it. Voila!

An old trick, save the paper towels and use stale bread to absorb the grease..:)
As far as cooking temperature, depends on the thickness and amount of fat in the slice..I have had some bacon sliced so thin, you could read a newspaper thru it..:D
 
How ever many slices get dropped into a hot pan (messy) but they get seared and flipped quickly so as to get a nice, browned piece of wobbly bacon. A bit more cooked for a BL or BLOT sammich.
 
The two previous post are very informative..Paper towel or stale bread...No fuss no muss....I have done the balancing act before with some success, and some failures......Great idea's both, bread or towels...No more major clean ups for me..Thanks......Bacon, Bacon, Yum I love bacon......Shame on me I guess....BUT it is Sooooo Good.
 
I've cooked bacon many ways and they were all good. I've settled on this oven baked method. I line a good sized metal (12"x15") pan with foil. A pound of thick sliced bacon fits crowded. I don't use a rack. Put it in a cold oven and set it to 400 degrees. Set timer for 18 minutes. Check at 18 and I usually add a couple more min to get just right balance of medium crispy. Drain on paper towels.

I use the cold oven method too, set at 425 degrees and check bacon at 15 minutes for doneness. Works great and no work.
 
Trial and error my friend trial and error. Don't trust the temperature control to be accurate. It also will depend on type of bacon, how much water content, how thick, amount of fat. Throw it on and just watch it.

Remember all bacon is good and save the grease for cooking with. Nothing can get any better with bacon grease in it.

Most bacon you get when you eat out is cooked in the oven.

Around here bread never lasts long enough to go stale... it's like an expiration date on the ice cream that's 9 months from now. As if!

Use dog kibbles to soak up grease. Pup will love you.
