M&P15 Optic Suggestions

I'll chime in with my $0.02...

I have an Eotech 556 on my Stag. I originally paired it with a magnifier, but wasn't in love with the setup. Initially, I viewed the Eotech as the ultimate close quarter optic. However, I don't LOVE the reticle, and I like the push-button activation switches even less. On that rifle, I'm leaning towards selling the Eotech and replacing it with an Aimpoint T1, paired up to a Larue 1/3 mount.

On my current project (which I originally was going to put the Aimpoint on) I poured over scope offerings for days/weeks. Finally decided to try something a little different and just purchased a Nikon P-223 3x32. Fixed magnification, a bullet drop reticle, and it's compact/lightweight. I'm going to pair it up with an American Defense Ad-Recon-PB mount and give it a whirl. I like the idea of a small bit of magnification and no batteries to run out. Also, with a QD mount, I can rip it off the gun quickly and resume with iron sights, if needed. Kind of excited about the setup--can't wait to try it out.

Thanks RDFabsRep, that looks like a sweet set-up. The Nikon M-223 Mount might be a cheaper alternative (but no QD). I'll look into it. Let us know what you think when you try it out.

That's what I use (actually H1).

Small, light, simple and extremely reliable. IMO, that's what a 1x red dot should be for a battle rifle.

I saw this one and I really don't see the point. The PRO has more features, and is only around $50 more. For anyone to consider this new one, the street price needs to be below $300.

I agree with you. The thought on one of the other forums is that Aimpoint
is going up on the PRO to keep the price spread between them.
I already have a PRO, but if I didn't I probably would still buy the PRO over the new one.

They put a cheaper mount on it and cheaper electronics. Probably go for around $350 or less. I don't much see the point in buying an Aimpoint just because it's built cheaper. IMO, buy a dime store optic like primary Arms or buy the no compromise optic that you really want.

Went with the EOTech EXPS2-0. Caught it on sale at CMC Government Supply for $430.

That's a great optic at a killer price. I've never seen one go that low before for a new one.

Eye relief on that Bushnell throwdown is only 3.5", BTW... and I disagree about having to spend big bucks. Look at a TRS-25. 3MOA, well built, $100.

I've been in just about every LGS in my area sampling just about every optic known to man That includes the TRS-25, which is decent for the bucks. My purpose was to find a good optic for tactical and 200 yard bench shooting/hunting. So, I needed a 1MOA dot. After doing my homework (probably spent $200 on gas ) Finding the EXPS2-0 on sale for $430 clinched the deal.

$65 at Palmetto this weekend. I've used them. Can't tell any difference in use from a PA MicroDot.

I just started 3-gun and some stages are out to 300 yards. I have a TRS-25 on the side and a Burris 3-9X40 Fullfield E1 on top.

I'd look hard at the AimPoint PRO. It has all the advanced features you might want, NV compatible, long battery life, always on and proven quality. Only ding I would give it is the oddball battery it uses, but if you keep extras in stock that's really not an issue.

And if you shop around during black Friday, you can score one for around $350...

My 15T sports the Eotech 512 holographic weapon sight which suits all of my under 200 yard needs. The beauty of the AR platform with Picatinny Rails is that if your needs change you can easily swap optics. If I'm going to shoot at targets 300 yards out where my old eyes can barely make out the target much less the bulls eye, I would make a quick swap and put a decent scope on it.

Battery life on the PRO is 30,000 hours(almost 3.5 years) if you leave it on all the time.
Not a whole lot of demand for extras, maybe one???

For what my opinion is worth, not much according to my wife, I would recommend the optic I have on my M&P 15 MOE ( older version) a Burris AR 332.
It is a fixed 3X prism with etched BDC in black, but will go red or green with various brightness levels. The advantage to the etched reticle is it is always there even if your battery gives out. It also comes with a mount and I have found it to be an excellent value. Mine ran around $400 when I bought mine several years ago, but I see the prices coming down now with the increased competition.
Vortex Optics also has one that is very similar and probably just as good and they are both in the same price range.
While I like EOtech, the price and lack of magnification made less than ideal for my uses which are similar to yours.

Looks great.

I would recommend mounting it further forward. Get it in the very last slot on the upper receiver. This will help with field of view and make the reticle appear a little larger.

I like the AimPoint PRO for a reasonably priced, quality optic on my AR.
