I don't have a large dog and really don't want a large one, just my preference no other reason except I like lap dogs. So I don't have a problem with the little guy sleeping with us. Now if I liked Great Danes I guess it would sleep where ever it wanted.

My wife does not like dogs in bed. However if she has a restless night and gets out of bed I usually wake up with two dogs and a cat curled up in bed with me.

We had two different Cockapoos and neither one wanted anything to do with sleeping on the bed. Neither one could get up on it by themselves. They both were content with sleeping in their own beds in a corner in our bedroom.
Every once in a blue moon they'd want to come up on the bed if I wasn't feeling well and would take an afternoon nap, then they would whine to come and nap with me ;)
The last one loved to go in our Motorhome and she would wait by the door until we were leaving, then she'd take her place on the coach and there she would stay!
Both were great dogs and I do miss them ;)

Every night the dog jumps on the bed until we fall a sleep. She stays on top of the covers. Only !!

My husband had 2 black lab/chessie cross hunting dogs, was on hunting trip with his buddy, staying in a dog friendly motel. Dogs decided to sleep with his buddy. Hubby told his buddy's wife that her hubby slept with 2 black bitches. Thankfully she caught the humor of it.

If I let the dog sleep on the bed, either my wife or I would have to sleep elsewhere (and that isn't going to happen). She's just too big (the dog, not the wife )

It has varied by the dog. We have had a couple that insist on being as close as possible. Bozo only does it when the weather cools off. Since I turn the heat way down at night for lots of reasons, it does not bother me much.

You forget dogs lick their butts afterwards.
That may not win them any awards for fresh breath, but their butts may just be cleaner than ours. :)

And then there are some people that let dogs lick their face, including on the mouth..... Makes me sick just thinking about it!

Love my dog but there's no way he sleeps in my bed. He does however sleep at the foot of my bed. ;)

For me...sure beats sleeping alone, whether just taking a nap or down for the night in the big bed.

I have been known to get up on a occasion or two, in the middle of the night to change the bed clothes when she's been sick though....But that's Ok. I still love her.

My dog is definitely an indoor dog and has never slept outside at night since I have had her. Still she has never been on any of my furniture, couch, chair, or bed. It is really a bad practice to allow dogs on the furniture of your home.

Besides being unsanitary, it sends the wrong message to your dog. This is especially important if you have one of the larger or one of the more aggressive breeds.

People think I spoil my dog and when it comes to food and treats and such I guess I do. However, she knows she is a dog and not a human and she has her toys and her bed and her bowls, and I have my stuff. She knows and respects the difference.

I cannot imagine letting my dog get up on my bed, much less allowing her to sleep there.

Until this dog, no. They always had their own bed and were happy with it.

This one is a pit and as we found out after the fact, they are more loving and closer to humans than almost any other dog.

She NEEDS to be on your lap or hugging or touching. When we got her from the pound as a puppy, the first night she disregarded her bed which was right next to ours and stood and put her paws on ours and cried. So mournful was her appeal, we let her in.

She been there ever since.

She's 8 now. We wash her every week and she never gets into anything dirty, our yard is all deck or cement, house is kept clean.

Overall I am surprised to be sleeping with a dog in the bed (under the sheets), but after all this time I accept it and frankly, I look forward to having my buddy snuggle with me.

BTW, another thing she does is to lick when she's getting sleepy. Her routine is to victimize me or the wife and just lick until the cows come home. I've learned over time how to slow then stop her. She can't help herself in her zeal to say thanks for another good day and I love you.

Dogs are the best.

When dogs decided to be friends with man, man got the better end of the deal.

I love my dog, and it is a wee brown dog...but two tall people in bed need all of the room they can get. We did try it but decided we were not getting the rest we needed.

BTW...cats don't work either....the walk all over you (literally).

In bed........................... No.

On the bed.................... Yes.

Pillow............................ NO.

Bottom 18" .................. Yes.

It also depends on the size and temperament of the dog or dogs !!
I would probably have to sleep on the couch if I owned a real mean Great Dane.
