M&P45 - MA-compliant+Apex or 48 State?

Problem solved (but not cheap)...

Well, after all the nonsense, expense and frustration running around trying to find an S&W M&P .45 with at least a semi-acceptable trigger right out of the box, I finally gave up. It was not going to happen. It was a case of include the $100 Apex Kit upgrade in the deal or figure out something else, possibly another brand/model or even a used gun. :o

I have had my eye on a slightly used two-tone SW99 .45 for a while now but it is on consignment and the asking price is way out of line. :( Owner must think it is made of gold! ;)

I also found a very nice used Sig P220 two-tone, also a little high in price but probably worth every cent they are asking for it.

I suppose a Ruger SR45 was always a possibility, but I was not that impressed with them when I had taken a hard look at them almost a year ago. :( I had to do better than that.

In the end, it was the $200.00 H&K rebate together with a substantial dealer discount that made me go for an HK45. I ended up with the HK45 for less than $100 (after rebate) over the cheapest M&P .45 plus installed Apex Kit price that I could find.

Yes, I paid more than I wished to pay, but not that much more over the M&P .45 + Apex Kit. And there was simply no way I could live, even for a short time, with the stock MA-compliant M&P .45 trigger. :( It was nothing short of unusable in my book.

I'll also admit that it didn't help that I'd had a bad experience with S&W CS just this past week. Kind of insulting what CS did and said to me. I didn't appreciate the words or the little joke they played on me. Was I going to buy another S&W product right after that treatment? Let's just say that it sure didn't help S&W at all and yes, it probably did help push me into a different brand.

The end. :p

What was the issue you had with customer service? They played a joke on you? Sounds like pretty poor service if you ask me.
I called to request a 3rd Gen replacement grip per the infamous grip recall. They promised to send out a used take-off grip that was in "perfect condition." What I received was a beat up old grip worse than I've thrown away and even hairline cracked at the bottom (which is exactly what the post-recall grips were supposed to prevent). Even worse, the "dimple" (indicating post-recall) looked like it was amateurishly done with a soldering iron. What the heck?

But the worst of it was the attitude I got about us 3rd Gen owners. Very insulting and uncalled for. There's more but you get the idea.

I'm glad you're happy with the HK45. In the end, that's all that matters. I'm surprised at the CS issue.

Did you buy the HK in Mass? Does it have the requisite 10.5lb trigger pull? You don't have to answer, I am just curious.

I did buy it in MA and it is fully MA-compliant. :) I'll have to get out the trigger weight scale to give you an exact reading, but so far so good. Remember that the HK45 is a DA/SA pistol, not a striker-fired pistol like the M&P .45. The DA will be 10.5+ pounds but the SA will be a whole lot less. Different animal altogether. And to confuse things even more, there is a LEM kit available for the HK45, but I don't think I'll be going that route anytime soon. :)

Truth is that I wanted a full-size striker-fired .45 pistol to fill that particular "hole" in my collection. Instead, I ended up with a full-size DA/SA .45 and that's okay too. This is my first H&K but I don't think it will be my last. I am already on the waiting list for a VP9 at my LGS. :)

What will probably happen (eventually, knowing me) is this: Instead of the full-size M&P .45, which I won't "need" anymore, I will probably turn my attention to the M&P .45c, which seems to be a whole lot more popular (and available new or used) anyway.

I have an H&K USP Compact 9mm which is similar to the HK45. When I have a few extra dollars, I will upgrade mine to the LEM variant.

For those that don't know, the LEM (Law Enforcement Mode) variant is unique. No other pistol has anything like it. It turns the gun into a true DAO, but the trigger pull is almost as light as a single action. The way it works is to allow the hammer to fall, but the main spring is still fully compressed. This way the user doesn't have to compress the main spring with that DA pull. Further, it allows the user to carry with the hammer down, just like a DA/SA, but the trigger pull is always the same without being super heavy like a true DAO would be.

It's not for everyone, but I will do the upgrade just to have one as an example for my students.

Glad it worked out for you

Got it! I forgot about the DA/SA.
I've got the 45c with the DCAEK installed and shot it today.
I think its my favorite M&P semi.
