Bad News

I had a cat named Scout. He was 13 years old and developed lung cancer. When it was time to stop his suffering, I held him while the vet administered the drugs. When he went limp in my arms I felt my heart break. I couldn't stop crying. I drove him to our farm in West Virginia and buried him under a flowering bush. Everytime I go to the farm I visit that grave. He was some kind of cat. He would sit in my lap and purr his head off. While sitting in my lap, he would look straight up at me from time to time and stare at me until I looked at him. He would then look around the room at everyone else like he was saying "we're buds" and just back to purring. Sorry for your loss, Jarhead1178. I share your grief.

My sister thinks I spend way too much for Shastas med care--nope--IF I could afford it? id go to he best vets in town. A walk-in--charged a $200 fee for no appt. Anyway, I owe it to Shasta--since she was abandoned by a family that moved--taking the rest of the kittens with them. Shasta was left to die--all because she was the runt of the litter. Well, today she is the correct size for full-grown Cats--and one of the if not THE best cat ive ever had.

You have my condolences and prayers for peace and acceptance. I guess most of us have been through this and will again but I know that doesn't make it any easier. I still love and miss all the cats and dogs I've ever had. Like people, each one can be an individual with their own loveable qualities and ways of worming their way into our hearts.

The simple truth is that it hurts. Not much help for it. But we can treasure the memories look at all the photos and recall the good times. A bitter sweet thing but we can keep them close and continue to "have" them with us.

I can't even begin to imagine the misery of loosing any of our 3 boys. God bless.................

you can bet snooty appreciates the loving home you have given her since she adopted you and your wife......we have 3 little rescue guys that helped me through a very tough time in my life...prayers to all of you and we share your grief

I had to have one put down 4 yrs. ago when she got so bad she was a danger to herself. I held her. Then I went to the Animal Rescue League and adopted a bonded pair...a little calico female and a 20+ pound yellow male. He's a lover boy lap cat with a big purr; she's not a lap cat but loves to lay down right next to me.

You are a good man doing the right thing!

Thanks, your a good person.l feel your pain.

We took in a stray kitten a few years ago and she made the best pet a person could ask for. She only lived three years before ending up with an uncureable disease that affected her immune system, we too kept her comfortable as long as we could, which wasn't long, before having to have her put down. I try not to dwell on the loss of a pet, instead I am grateful for the time we had together and find happiness in knowing that I gave them the best life I could.

Sorry you have to deal with the sad situation, I hope you find comfort knowing that you and your wife have made Snooty's life the best she could have ever had.

These are tough times. Pets get to be just like family and we love 'em even more because hey depend on us for everything. It isn't like they can go get a job and take care of themselves when they get older.
My Pitbull, Buster, just turned 10 on Dec. 2nd and he's got some health issues like Cushing's disease and some pretty bas arthritis in both of his left leg joints. He has some meds that help and he's still alert and engaged so he's good for a little while longer, but we all know it will come down to having to do the unthinkable.
I feel your misery. Just keep loving Snooty and know she loves you, too.

I hate these threads!. Yet, I am drawn to them like a moth to a flame.
I will tear up, just as certain as the sun rises in the east.

As has been said, many, many animal lovers on this forum. Member Fishslayer posted this in similar thread http://smith-wessonforum.com/lounge/334995-lost-great-friend-today.html
See post 33.

I found some solace from his post when I lost two 4 legged friends in two weeks. Hope you do the same.

May her journey continue with your love and care. Tough choices lay ahead. Our thoughts are with you.

Just got back from the vet. My rescue cat snooty had a lump on her jaw, vet took x-rays and found cancer. He said it was too far gone to operate. I have had a lot of pets in my life and loved them all. Snooty was found living behind a Wendy's by a rescue group. She was fully grown when they found her and lived at the shelter two years before we adopted her. We have had her six years and she has been a joy to have in our family. The vet wanted to put her down but I told him she is still eating ok and sleeping peacefully in my wife's lap. As soon as I see the first sign that she is hurting I will have her put to sleep. This old tough marine has a special place in his heart for this old ally cat and will miss her dearly. Sorry to unload on you guys but I know this is a great group.

Don't want to raise your hopes up to high here mate. But when our Golden got cancer in his nose ,a regular vet gives up because of conventional treatments. See if you have a vet close to you that performs Laser Surgery. And go and get a second opinion. My dog lived to an old age after I met a Laser Surgery vet.

This is where I went with Bear, he is one of the 18 pioneers in the USA

Animal Medical Center | Valrico Veterinary Medicine

good luck and God bless.
