I'm sorry to hear this. It can sure rip a hole in your heart.
Just remember there are other rescue animals out there when the time is right.

My wife refused to let go of our dog Heidi and she suffered too much before we had her put down. Never again will I allow that to happen.
I had a cat named Scout. He was 13 years old and developed lung cancer. When it was time to stop his suffering, I held him while the vet administered the drugs. When he went limp in my arms I felt my heart break. I couldn't stop crying. I drove him to our farm in West Virginia and buried him under a flowering bush. Everytime I go to the farm I visit that grave. He was some kind of cat. He would sit in my lap and purr his head off. While sitting in my lap, he would look straight up at me from time to time and dtare at me until I looked at him. He would then look around the room at everyone else like he was saying "we're buds" and just back to purring. Sorry for your loss, Jarhead1178. I share your grief.
Just got back from the vet. My rescue cat snooty had a lump on her jaw, vet took x-rays and found cancer. He said it was too far gone to operate. I have had a lot of pets in my life and loved them all. Snooty was found living behind a Wendy's by a rescue group. She was fully grown when they found her and lived at the shelter two years before we adopted her. We have had her six years and she has been a joy to have in our family. The vet wanted to put her down but I told him she is still eating ok and sleeping peacefully in my wife's lap. As soon as I see the first sign that she is hurting I will have her put to sleep. This old tough marine has a special place in his heart for this old ally cat and will miss her dearly. Sorry to unload on you guys but I know this is a great group.
