So how'd I do?

Well...I can trade you a N frame for it if ya want to...I can do a lot with the K frame, but not so much with the older N frame. If you don't want that, I'll probably sell it. :-)

I'm headed into town shortly for lunch. I will call your cell afterwards if you're available.

Your brother is pretty dang cool. The only calls I get from my brother are usually to work in his behalf in the violation of his restraining order. It sucks when you get escorted to the county line.

That was a real sweetheart deal.As in "well sweetheart it was cheap".

The very best, but I knew that long before today.

As a side note, I also found a local source for 50 round boxes of the Remington 158 grain LSWCHP +P loads, for about $30 each. I can get it slightly cheaper online, but the shipping costs ruin the deal. Out of a snub gun, this is, IMO, probably an excellent load. Especially considering I can load my own cast bullets to mirror it's ballistics in practice for pennies per round.

Is there anybody who still carries this load, or am I behind the times?

I still have a little bit of that ammo that was gifted to me by an FBI agent I was taking a class with back in the late '70s. This was FBI issue and had a dark blue coating on it. Say what you will about lighter and faster bullets, those round still speak with authority! I would not feel under-equipped with them, even if there is a newer and better round available. JMHO, YMMV.

My tests have all been less than scientific, this guy is a little more on the ball, and his tests show the 125 grain gold dot expanding reliably out of a ruger LCR. I carry the 125 or 135 in all of my 38's.

Pocket Guns and Gear: Speer Gold Dot 38 Special +P 125 Grain GDHP Terminal Test

That is excellent news! I only tested one round of this ammo, from a Taurus 2 inch barrel and found the bullet had only begun to expand, effectively make the bullet a wadcutter shape. Perhaps I should revisit this ammo now. I still have a few boxes lying around.

So how'd I do?

Real good...

...'cause now you can make a quick 10 dollar profit by selling it to me. Easiest ten bucks you ever made. :)

Finally got to shoot it today.

I tried some Remington .38 +P LSWC-HPs and some .38 +P Gold Dots, and did some very informal expansion testing. The Gold Dots are definitely my carry load.

My large hands and the magna grips just don't get along for .357-level loads. I shot some of my handloads, featuring a 175 grain LSWC at 1150 fps from a Model 27, and this little beast becomes a real handful. I have to re-grip the gun every few rounds. I am going to either add a T-grip or some boot grips. The magnas are just too small for my XL-sized hands.

The real treat was popping milk jugs at about 60 yards with this baby. Often, people just don't understand that a handgun doesn't run out of juice at 25 yards.

All in all, this is a beautiful little piece that I intend to carry with some regularity. It just needs a few tweeks for my personal tastes.

You got a great deal there, though I prefer the 3" HB fixed sight guns. I have a set of Pachmayrs I will send you if you care to try them.

You need to spend the rest of your life looking over your shoulder. If I could ever come upon a steal (I mean deal ) like that I would gladly look over mine!

Gorilla you're lucky and Im jealous. I carry fbi load in all my .38s from 2 inch J & Ks, 3 inch J and 4 inch Ks.

Green Frog you have some very desirable and hard to come by Federal Nyclads.

I've been looking for one of those for years. I would have paid $450 without even a second thought. More than that might require a second or two:D
