What, me carry?

Why in the world would you leave a gun in the car? That is just irresponsible gun ownership. Many guns are stolen from vehicles. If you decide to carry and your work does not permit then you have two choices, one is not carry while going to work or carry concealed at work and take your chances.
Where I live, if I were to enter federal property, such as the VA Hospital for treatment, and park my car in their parking structure, I would be subject to arrest if discovered. It is a federal crime to bring a firearm onto federal property, even if it is locked in a tamper-resistant steel box which could be welded to the car frame. The mere presence of the gun in my parked car is in violation of law.I agree to the extent that you shouldn't lock a firearm in your car if in a crime-laden area or it will be unattended for extended periods of time like an airport or train station, but that aside it's a viable, practical and sometimes necessary option - been doing it for 30+ years and never had a problem. Heck, cop cars have them locked in plain view - in fact, our motorcycles had M-4s mounted and locked externally - cops aren't in the habit of brining their long guns into the donut shops.Ultimately, I want to keep my weapon on my person, that's what I have it for, but sometimes...
I am confident that at one time or another, the vast majority of members on this site have locked firearms in their vehicles without incident, especially long guns.
Yea so he risks exposing his weapon putting his weapon in or off at a federal location? I mean i wouldnt do it, but i guess he does. The risk of one getting caught bringing a weapon into federal grounds is probably orders of magnitude far greater than ever needing itI would assume he uses the lock box once he gets to work but only he knows for sure.

My only alternative to locking it in a strongbox in the car while on government grounds, would be to leave it at home. At that point, it is just a useless paperweight if an incident occurs. I live in a high crime region of my state (Greater Detroit area), and it is almost normal to hear about the number of persons who were shot on any one day. I don't want to stop to gas up while unarmed and have some clown stick a gun in my face and tell me to get out of my new car. He (or she) might just shoot me anyway for the rush. So a lockbox is my only alternative to placing myself in danger of either arrest or robbery.
Feel free to take your chance, I refuse to leave my firearm in a vehicle unattended, that is just plain irresponsible to my way of thinking. I know this for sure if I never leave it in a vehicle it will never be stolen from my vehicle. Not necessarily, especially if you take proper precautions.
There are other choices. Lock the gun in a secure carrier, then cable lock it to a seat bracket under the seat. Or lock it in a secure gun carrier, then put the carrier in the trunk, cable lock it to the spare or some secure fastener, then lock the trunk.
Most punks who steal from cars work in a smash-and-grab style. They most likely aren't going to spend more than a minute, maybe two minutes, going through a car looking for goodies. Just don't leave other tempting stuff out in plain sight in a locked car...stuff that would give someone an incentive to break in.

Home is fully alarmed/video and monitored so not a valid comparison at all! What about leaving firearms in your home when you're not there? Wouldn't that be irresponsible if they were stolen? The same argument could be made.
Doesn't mean anything. My work place is alarmed and had video and when we had a break in one night we say a video of a guy steeling stuff. Stuff is still gone, stolen but we have a video for.....?Home is fully alarmed/video and monitored so not a valid comparison at all!
