S&W primers Pictures added in post 11

I'd buy one for $10 just as a curio. I don't think they're worth that, and I wouldn't load with them at any price because you really don't know how they were stored. Others may know if there is a market for old primers, like old ammo. I could be wrong.
 
Most primers, including such desirable and collectible names like Winchester, bring only $3-4 per box at auction. Old boxes from the first half of the 20th century will bring a bit more, but $10-12 is probably the upper limit. And, as mentioned above, these Alcans might be worth $5-10 each, especially from an S&W collector.
 
Buy them, and use them. If you can buy at a decent price.They are still good.
I still use some once in a while.
 
When I started loading in the early 70s, Alcan was all that was available where I lived. I used thousands of them for $10/1000. Haven't seen any in years.
 
I used the last of the S&W/Alcan Max-Fire's, that I bought in '79, a little over a year ago. They worked fine. They were described as neither standard nor magnum primers, as best as I recall.
