Why does my nice new 1911 arouse such internet ire??

....people say bad stuff about stuff they know nothing about.

If you think, you'll know enough to know you know
You've had enough
But if you think you don't,
You probably will....

My 1911 priorities run...
1. 100% reliable
2. Decent trigger
3. Decent sights.

Regardless of the moniker it carries, the rest is just fluff-n-buff and gravy added on.

Seeing as I've got all the revolvers I want for the time being I decided to get another auto after having the same for a decade or so.

It is a forged frame...forged alloy, that is, and in the blasphemous for a 1911 9mm caliber.

It will not be mine for another few months or so.

1911's in 9mm are a lot of fun to shoot! I was very impressed with a friend's Springfield in 9mm.

That's what I keep hearing. I think .45ACP overpowers the lightweight frames, but 9mm seems ideal.

Nice gun! and the Remington site says they are made in the USA.

Cast or forged.....I doubt anyone will shoot enough to wear one out.

Enjoy your cool 1911 and shoot her a lot!!

E-RPC is a subsidiary if Remington. The frame is cast and the slide is forged.

E-RPC is Remington.

and from the 1911 forum:

From a previous thread that raised this question:

WELL ...

just got off the phone with 3 different people at the remington e-rpc factory in ilion, ny - a sales rep woman, and two men from the repair/service department. if we can all believe what they all just told me, it appears i need to eat a helping heapful of humble crow pie.

i was told that rem 1911r1 is MADE (cast, machined, etc.) in the ilion, ny, plant. who'da thunk? NOT ME!!! however, there may be a few outsourced minor parts, such as screws, pins, etc.

I WAS WRONG - for the very most part the remington e-rpc 1911 r1 is USA MADE, not just usa BUILT.

if you wish to follow up and confirm, call rem e-rpc at 877-801-1911 - speak both to sales/info and the repair/service department.

Early in the summer, I had the privilege of shooting with Bill and Ryan Wilson, some friends, and some employees of Wilson Combat. I think I was the only one shooting .45... I was short on .38 Super ammo. A well made 1911 in 9mm is great!

That is one good looking 1911. I don't get all the hate for Big Green lately. Sure the R51 had some issues, but I always had good experiences with Remington. I trust their Express and Golden Saber ammo more than any other. They made 1911s before, and I bet they make them well now. Many people are just negative. My first 1911 is a Colt 1991 ORM, and the first thing some people say is "should have bought a Kimber or Springfield". Some folks will just always be negative.

I thought I'd post a quick update.

I've put about 300 rounds of mostly ball through it without a single malfunction.

It probably shoots better than I can. I was at an indoor range that lets folks shoot rifles, and the guy next to me was shooting a Winchester 94 Trapper in 30/30. I felt like I was getting nerve damage every time he touched one off. In between convulsions I shot this at the (maximum range) 25 yard line.

I'm really liking this gun.

I have a friend who is a fairly serious pistolero. He bought an R1 maybe 3 years ago (at a very good price from a dealer going out of business) and he has been most satisfied with it. I have fired his a few times, and it feels just like my Colt 1911 (yes, a real WWI M1911). From what I understand Remington really dropped the ball on the R51, which was a dumb idea in the first place - naming a piece of (excrement) after what was probably the finest pocket pistol ever made, the Remington 51.

"... piston return springs."

Huh? In my internal combustion engines, the connection rod and crankshaft return the piston anywhere it needs to go.

Sigp22045:

Nice score! The only thing I don't like about it is the stainless steel barrel bushing. Real small gripe.

1911 fans have an incredible array of choices now in a wide range of makers, sizes, features and price points. We have never been so lucky.

May we all face Ogden, Utah, bow and genuflect in his honor.

I've owned and shot a Remington R1S (stainless model) for a couple of years now and have never had a problem, but I still like my Colts.

From the generally glowing reviews here of the Remington 1911 R1, I guess I should go back to my local indoor range and give their loaner fleet gun another try. It was the jam-o-matic of all jam-o-matics the one time I took it out. I was so disappointed.

Those guns get a ton of use and it's not uncommon for them to have issues. At any point in time, a large percentage of them are out for repair or awaiting parts. I recently had lots of problems with their P229 in 9mm... but now it runs like a charm. They claimed it was just a bad recoil spring.

So next time I'm there I'll try the Remington 1911 R1 again. Sounds like whatever the problem was, it's probably not systemic. :)

The only people irate, are the plastic folks, on their

plastic computers, with their plastic guns.

I'm another owner of a Norinco 1911A1, who has

nary a problem with it, or any other 1911 I own.

There's a lot of folks on the interwebs who think they are

special, or are trolling, on a subconscious level. Basically,

they are even lying to themselves, that they are jerking

your chain.

My norinco 1911a1 is my most accurate, dependable 1911 for $300 it's a winner.
My other three forged 1911's are ok too.
My only 1911 that's casted framed 1911 my auto ordnance ww2 army is awesome too.
600++ rounds through it with no wear yet.

Since I learned how to work on 1911's all my 1911's run like Swiss watches. There's nothing wrong with 1911's. I do lube all the moving parts with moly.

I'm a bit late to the party but what the heck. I'll tell you what I think of the R1 Remmy, I like it! Whats not to like, affordable, reliable, accurate and a decent trigger despite the the series 80 style fireing pin safety. Here's mine with some thirty something Bianchi leather.
