Why does my nice new 1911 arouse such internet ire??

Remington severely damaged its reputation with the R51 debacle, major quality controls problems with the Marlin lever actions, and trigger issues. I believe the resulting distrust has spilled into other products like the R1.

I had one. Well, 2. Remington customer service was great. I sent them the defective gun on Wed or Thursday, and had a new gun in my hands on Monday. Unfortunately, the replacement gun had the safety hole drilled so that the safety cut into my hand when shooting it.

Pretty sure WC is not going to change how they make their guns. :D

Nice looking R1 OP, hope you enjoy it! The R1 I shot with had no feeding issues using several kinds of ammo. Getting rid of the series 80 safety in mine sure made the trigger better to me. Some people like the series 80 safety.

This argument of cast over forged, custom makers pick tiger revolvers for their hottest rounds, these are cast . Ever here anyone say they are week! If there was an advantage to forged over cast it would have to be the wear factor , steel on steel friction, with the lives we have today if you maintain you gun I don't believe any one would wear a cast gun out, cast steel is not cast iron!

I just found out my Springfield 1911 has a forged frame...but forged in Brazil! Oh no!
Who gives a ****. If your ever in S.C. with that R1 look me up and we'll have some fun knocking steel plates with heavy bullets. Bring your own ammo though. My son has a S&W 1911 now and eats my 45acp reloads like M&M's.

It may be funny but ALL airplanes are built to one standard. Not so with guns otherwise a Tisas would be equal to a Baer, Nighthawk or WC. There are no "economy" versions of airplanes as far as raw materials and manufacturing goes. No one makes a Taurus or Jimenez version of an airplane

No but all military aircraft are manufactured by the lowest bidder.

I would put a chair or small sofa there instead.

Internet opinions are like my ( Ugh) son in law. Experts on everything. Nice gun you have. I know quite a few Remington owners who also own a Gold Cup, like me. Enjoy it !

FYI - The Remington-Rand company that made 1911s for the US Government during WWII and the Remington Arms Company are/were NOT the same outfit.

Remington-Rand was a business machine manufacturer known for it's typewriters. It had nothing to do with Remington Arms except for sharing a surname thanks to Remington Arms creating the Remington Typewriter Company in the 1800s. Remington Typewriter was sold in 1886 making it a completely separate and independent entity which later merged with the Rand Kardex Corp to form Remington-Rand in the 1920s. Remington-Rand never had anything to do with Remington Arms.

Until it introduced the R1, Remington Arms had never produced a 1911 pistol.

Were those typewriters cast or forged? :D:D:D

Sorry... I just couldn't resist that ;).

Remington-Rand went on to become a major player in the computer industry of 50's, you may have heard of them... Univac.

The cast versus forged argument is entertaining to me when longevity is one of the comparisons... it makes one wonder, how has the internal combustion engine survived all of this time by depending on engine blocks and heads made by casting?

The environment inside of engine cylinder when the fuel mixture explodes is as hostile (if not more) as what a firearm has to content with, not to mention metal on metal wear.

I like the OP's gun... that looks to be a nice basic Government model 1911.

Has anyone here used the stainless version of the Remington? I prefer stainless handguns.

If I couldn't afford a real Colt, the Remington R1 and the basic Springfield models are where I'd shop for a M-1911 style gun.

An artist had a painting that was awful and it was priced ridiculously high. I commented that nobody would pay $25 for that... he said, you are right, but there are people that will pay a thousand because they know nothing about art. I say this because you can pay $5K for a custom 1911 or $700 for one that has the same bells and whistles that is more accurate than you can shoot. Some folks like a three pointed star on their hood... some people just want transportation that works. Congratulations on a fine 1911. The originals always bit me, still have a scar from shooting my father's WWII era version. I appreciate a beaver tail, better sights, and a better safety release. You don't have to pay thousands for a quality 1911. Just learn to shoot it and make sure it feeds the carry ammo flawlessly. Ruger has a winner at a very fair price. Hard to beat the price on your Remington. Have fun.

Nice looking 1911. I've read good things about the R1.

Here are my thoughts on 1911's: If it feeds both ball and hollow point ammo reliably, it's good to go. I have owned high end production 1911's that would ftf even after the so called 'break in'.

If your remington is reliable, it's a good 1911!

You are correct about Reminton Rand but wrong about Reminton not making war 1911`s.
Remington Arms was under contract during WW1 but only turned out about 23,000 1911`s before the contract was cancelled at wars end.
Colt did not invent the 1911. John Moses Browning did. Remington Arms WW1 pistols fought right alongside the Colt.

I had one. It ran 100%. It ran so good that a friend in LE had to have it. He carries it every day. He likes it so much, he bought a twin. Personally, I think you made a great choice. You got a great price. You will be very happy. Ignore those who are critical.

Well, I guess it's alright, if that's all you have. But my phased plasma rifle in the 40 watt range is a much better gun and really the only one a true shooter would carry. I know 'cause an ex-Special Forces Tank Paratrooper with his own YouTube channel said so.

Just kidding, nice pistol! Annoy the world, enjoy it!

Awful nervy buying a new gun you like and posting all over here! There are rules about that!!! Can't be all bad with a John Deere green case to tote it around in......
