I have been known to carry a speed strip or two, but I honestly can't imagine any realistic and probable scenario where there would be time and an immediate need to reload via a speed strip, but would not be ample time and opportunity to flee the scene. I'm of the opinion that nearly all(99.5%) armed civilian public self-defense situations are resolved(one way or the other) by what's in the gun based on the stats I've seen of over 600 cases of civilians using firearms in self-defense.
I feel the same way you do regarding the shooting portion. I carry a speed strip because I don't want to have an empty gun after the shooting is over. Lots can happen between the last round and the police arriving.
