12 gauge. (It's God's gauge, you know.)
You could try the .22 but have you checked the price of ammo lately? And unless you've got a scoped rifle, it's gonna take a lotta shots to get enough down to make it worth the effort.
Go with the scattergun.

I've used both the 16 and 28 on quail, pheasants and rabbits. I am not a gentleman. But I do know what 2 very efficient gauges can do.

Repeated doses of .22 LR directed at the base will take a few chunks out pretty quick.
Do not go digging into the old ammo section of your gun closet for the 3"magnum, copper plated, buffered #2 lead shot and fire it straight up at the base of the mistletoe clump.
It will both blast large chunks of mistletoe off, and drive you into the ground like a tomato stake! (Ask me how I know!)

Why not use that brand spankin' new Daisy Red Rider caj.
After all, whatever can be brought down with a 20 gauge can be brought down with a B B gun (more or less)

A long barrel shotgun will do the trick. I used a 410 as a kid.
BC38 beat me to it. When I saw the thread, the first thing I thought about was Caj on ladders. I remember that thread.

No gun needed. Use the ugly stick. Every time I stand under the mistletoe, someone immediately takes it down.
