I have a 29-2, 6 inch and a 624, 6inch. The trigger on the 624 is so much lighter and crisp than the 29 so it has become my go to 44. In fact I have purchased a Lew Horton 24-3 from a member to add to the 44 special pool. If it shoots even close to the 624 I will be pleased. I also have a Colt .45 acp 1917 Army DA that handles the 45 round like it is spitting out .22s. It is a great old timer gun, but I prefer my 624. For .45acp I stick with my 1911s. Just my two cents but start with the .44 special.

You have a heavy DA .44 Magnum and an SA .45 ACP/Colt, you reload for both and don't like clips. With this, it seems your choices would be a lighter weight DA .44 Special (24/624) to not duplicate your Redhawk, or a DA .45 (using either Auto Rim or Colt, most likely a model 25/625 of some type). Good luck in your search.

I wouldn't let dislike of moon clips sway the decision.
You can always use 45 auto rim.
Since you handload already, it's just as easy to load a 45 auto rim as a 44 special.

24/624 are not current models, so why not include the 696 L-frame? The 3" length with full length ejector is a good combination. I am wearing mine at the moment.

Good analogy. I'm leaning toward a 4in 44spl but that doesn't mean I won't acquire another 625 45acp if the right circumstances come along

There's no sexier lines in the shooting world than a tapered-barre N-frame target revolver.
If I were to win the lottery (kinda hard since I don't buy tickets), I would either buy a Model 26, or have one built from a Model 28. The 26 was the tapered barrel version of the 25, and there were precious few made.

Don't get the 44 acp unless you handload for it, finding factory 44 acp ammo is tough.

Much more versatile all the way around. I've shot deer, ground hogs & squirrels with my 696 DAO. I wouldn't hesitate to take her into the laurel after a wounded black bear with 240 grain hard cast LSWC with a max load of 2400.

Just wanted to jump in and THANK everyone that is participating, YES I am reading and appreciating the comments as well as the loyalty to certain calibers and models.
It is apparent that there isn't going to be 'just one more gun' but there will only be 'one at a time'

Hello folks..............I'm a little lost on which way to go and model to consider so I could use some input.
I once owned a 625JM and probably should have kept it but.....
I currently have a Redhawk 5.5" 44Mag that I shoot mid range target rounds out of in full Magnum cases. I also have a Ruger Blackhawk SA convertible 45 Colt/45acp.
I am contemplating another 45acp DA revolver or a 44spl DA revolver. Something 4" to 6". Anyone have a favorite in 44spl DA to suggest, pictures are appreciated too. Blue or stainless is fine.

Call me a dinosaur or old school but I like revolvers with six charge holes and chambered for revolver cartridges. If I had ammo for a semi-auto I'd use one to shoot that ammo. I never did get that. I'd try finding a model 24 or 624. .44 Special is the way to go. A double action .45 Colt may also be a consideration given what you already have.

I understand how you feel, tradition is a hard thing to deviate from
Shooting a 1911 45acp is just a wonderful marriage of gun and round, I have a nice 1911 for that.Maybe to make things 'right' I will shoot the 45 rimmed case out of the revolver that way it's not an 'auto' cartridge

Several folks have commented the 45 ACP "belongs" in a 1911. I cut my eye teeth with S&W revolvers and have shot them for over 50 years. A couple of times I have tried to learn to appreciate the 1911 but so far it just doesn't give me the same warm and fuzzy feeling I get with a good "N" frame in my hand. Some can switch back and forth between self loader and revolver but it seems, I am not one of them. If it works for you, great but some of us really do prefer the 1917 and it's derivatives.

Since Smith can only make good 44 specials and cant make a good 44 magnum, i would choose the 45 as my biased opinion. Rugers got them cornered in the 44. But they make one terribly awesome model 25 or 625.
