Recently, I asked about the ship on an Aussie TV series called, "Sea Patrol."
I've now seen all 13 episodes of the first season. This link is to a really good episode, Season Two, Ep. 1. The galley girl/medic is new, a chick nicknamed Bomber. The other cast are the same as in the first season.
I suggest starting from the first episode and getting to know L/Cmdr. Mike Flynn and his crew of a coastal patrol ship, HMAS Hammersley. The ship was retired after the first season, with a suitable ceremony, in dress uniforms and officers wearing swords.
Season Two has a new Hammersley, and the electronics, main gun, etc. are all more modern. The foredeck is more sunken, though, prob. more apt to flood in a storm, and they have some.
The courage and camaraderie and romantic intrigue remain.
Be advised that the navigator (Lt. Nikki Caetano) and an enlisted man have a crush on one another that they keep trying to hide and that the XO will eventually be found to be involved with the captain, but they keep it under control, so far. I've seen the final episode, so know how that ends, but won't spoil it for you.
The crew overall will intrigue you, as these sort of shows do, with strong cast interaction that provides the basis for the series, plus their official adventures.
In this ep, some apparent secretive mercenary soldiers have entered Australian waters in a decrepit Taiwanese ship, injured two Aussie sailors and taken off in a RIB (Rubber Inflatable Boat?) of their own, to reach a new mother ship with nefarious intent. They stabbed Charge, the big sailor who runs the engines on Hammersley, and he had to be airlifted to surgery in Cairns, Queensland.
This series is progressive, one episode following the plot set by previous ones, in a continuing story. I like it.
This has appealed to me more than any other recent TV series. It ran from 2006-2011, but looks new if you're new to it. I see it on YouTube, and my brother says it's on Netflix or whatever he uses to stream shows.
Give it a chance, and if you like a good action series with a talented cast, I think you'll find it as addictive as I have. The Second Season looks to be better than the first, a good sign.
BTW, like me, you may have heard of it via the blonde CIA agent on, "Chuck" having guested on, "Sea Patrol" before coming to the USA for ,"Chuck" and, "Astronauts Wives", etc. Her last name is Polish, and she used a different spelling there. Has to make the spelling simpler than it really is to let the name lie more easily on an Anglo palate. The current name is Yvonne Strahovski(y?). I think she was only in ep. 13, Season One, as an Australian Federal Police Agent who had a clever exchange with the XO on the bridge. Listen to them; it's funny.
Seriously, folks, this is the best TV drama that I've seen in awhile. Look for the guns. I think I see CZ-75's sometimes standing in for Brownings, but there are some real Brownings. I saw the rear sight on the XO's pistol in one scene, and it was the old Inglis version, but they seem to have been arsenal refinished and some may be newer ones. Rifles are the Steyr AUG. Ship can mount two Browning .50's, but they only come out usually if needed. The main gun is a 25mm auto cannon. It can do some real damage; they blew up another boat with it, using just two rounds.
Anyway, give it a gawk and I think you'll like it. I'm curious to see if anyone else here enjoys it. Like most TV shows, some aspects are predictable, but are well and cleverly told, with the cast empathy that helps to make a good show.
