Too bad about the weasel...

The best laid plans of weasels and men...

A weasel can shut you down!
Many Swiss know the wrath of the "Marder", otherwise known as the European Pine Marten. They lay waste to car wiring (Marderschaden) and have created a cottage industry of home remedy's to repel them.

When there is Marder activity in a village, it strikes fear in the hearts of auto owners, and word spreads like wildfire.

Gas turbine site where I worked had to replace a huge transformer. Seems a squirrel had short it out. Our house lost power and we have a pole mounted transformer just outside the car port. When the power company guy showed up seems the link had been shorted out. After replacing the link and power restored he found a dead squirrel nearby the pole. Frank

A buddy of mine in Germany had a weasel (or a marder, whatever) get in his car and screw stuff up.

Some of the insurance companies require a separate coverage for the little beasts, that cause about a hundred million dollars in auto damage annually in Germany. When they get into a home, the damage they do is astounding.

I'm not a hunter, but if I still lived in Switzerland, I'd make an exception for these devils.

We, too, had a squirrel short out our transformer. As we all gathered in the cul-de-sac, one of the neighbor's Schnauzer came out from under the power pole and took off running down the street with a smoking squirrel in her mouth! It's not every day a dog gets a fresh cooked squirrel!

Friend of mine is, as the song goes, a lineman for the county. He tells me about 1/2 of his calls can be attributed to squirrels. And, unlike Big Bill's cat, they don't survive.
